Borderlands 4’s first new playable character after release will be C4SH. Here’s a rundown of what’s been announced about their abilities and when you can expect them to arrive.
When a new Borderlands game comes out, it’s usually not the full experience right away. Typically, more playable characters, called Vault Hunters, are added in the months following the initial release, and that’s happening again with Borderlands 4.
I’m so hyped! Just weeks after the game came out, they already revealed the next character! It’s C4SH, and they showed her off at the 2025 Tokyo Game Show. Randy Pitchford himself was on stage to introduce her, which was awesome!
While it’s early days yet, here’s the full rundown on C4SH to get you ahead of the curve.
When is C4SH releasing in Borderlands 4?
Okay, so the developers haven’t given us an exact release date for the next Vault Hunter just yet. What they *have* said is we can expect them sometime in the first three months of 2026 – basically, between January 1st and March 31st. I’m marking my calendar now, but still keeping my expectations in check!

Since the character is being revealed so soon after the game came out, most of the development work is likely already finished. Because of this, we anticipate it will be released sooner rather than later within the expected timeframe.
Rest assured, we’ll keep you up to speed here as further details emerge.
Who is C4SH? New Vault Hunter background
C4SH is a robot originally created to work as a casino dealer, likely on the planet Kairos. However, he’s escaped that job and now searches for dangerous, ancient objects – often described as ‘cursed eldritch artifacts,’ according to an official announcement.
You’ll soon be able to discover more about C4SH’s past in the new story expansion, ‘Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned.’ When you first play as C4SH, you’ll also learn about everything he’s been through up to this point.
Borderlands 4 DLC Vault Hunter abilities: C4SH’s kit explained
C4SH is fundamentally built on the idea of luck. As a bot originally designed as a dealer, chance has always been central to its function, and it brings that same element of unpredictability into battle.
Everything about them – their skills and tools – seems to rely on luck, like with cards or dice. Pitchford even mentioned that his card-throwing displays inspired the animation for the new Vault Hunter character.
The character’s special abilities are quite random. Some might directly help you, while others could give your teammates a boost. We expect some will offer small damage increases, and others could provide huge damage if you’re fortunate. This unpredictable system probably applies to many different character builds.
It’s still early to say how well C4SH’s abilities will perform, but they definitely have the potential to be a very powerful character – a little luck will help too.
