Okay, so I finished Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, and now I’m diving into the Trial Maps. If you’re a Fire Emblem pro and love a good tactical challenge, these are definitely for you. You unlock them after beating the game once, then load up that completed epilogue save file. But here’s the thing – each map has its own specific requirements to unlock. And the levels my units were at when I finished that game? That’s what I’m stuck with for these trials! This guide is going to help me figure out exactly what I need to do to get each one going.
Trial Maps
Map 1: Hillside Battle
Requirement: Finish the game on any difficulty.
This map will see you struggle to route and defeat more than 80 enemies.
Map 2: Lonely Isle
Requirement: Finish the game on Normal OR Difficult mode.
You’ll be facing overwhelming odds on this small island map. Your goal is to survive and hold your ground for 8 turns.
Map 3: Strange Turn
Requirement: Finish the game on Difficult mode.
This map puts you at a significant disadvantage – you’ll face overwhelming numbers in a tight space, and you can only choose from a limited team of six characters.
Map 4: Desperation
To play, you’ll need either Fire Emblem or Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones on Game Boy Advance, and a Game Boy Advance Cable Adapter to connect it to your GameCube.
NSO: Will be unlocked by default upon unlocking Trial Mode.
This challenge takes place on the same map as Chapter 18 of the full game. Your mission is to fight your way south and complete it within 15 turns.
Map 5: Escape
To access this feature, you’ll need a copy of Fire Emblem for the Game Boy Advance and a Game Boy Advance Cable Adapter. Connect the GBA game to your GameCube using this adapter.
NSO: Will be unlocked by default upon unlocking Trial Mode.
This tougher version of Chapter 10 tasks you with saving your team from their holding cells and reaching the escape zone. Every time you free a teammate from a cell, new enemies will appear.
Map 6: Trapped
To get started, you’ll need to connect a copy of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones to your GameCube. You’ll need to use the Game Boy Advance Cable Adapter to do this.
NSO: Will be unlocked by default upon unlocking Trial Mode.
This section of the map has you split up and working separately to keep Ike safe for ten turns, just like when you recovered the three boats earlier in the game.
Trial Map exclusive characters
Trail Mode offers even more to enjoy! Beyond the new gameplay, you can unlock characters from the main story that you couldn’t control before. However, unlocking all of these characters requires completing the main story multiple times.
- Oliver – Beat the story mode 3 times
- Shiharam – Beat the story mode 5 times
- Petrine – Beat the story mode 7 times
- Bryce – Beat the story mode 10 times
- Ashnard – Beat the story mode 15 times
