Fire Emblem Fans Are Freaking Out Over What Nintendo Just Brought Back

Nintendo now considers the Fire Emblem series significant enough to save for last in their Nintendo Direct presentations, but that hasn’t always been the case.

Because of this, the 2005 Nintendo GameCube game Path of Radiance is difficult to find. Unless you’re prepared to spend a lot of money, it’s quite rare.

Good news for RPG fans! Nintendo has added the popular tactical role-playing game to its Nintendo Switch Online library. It’s available now for anyone with a Nintendo Switch and a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.

Path of Radiance is set on the continent of Tellius and features Ike, a character well-known from the Super Smash Bros. series.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Features Many Firsts For the Franchise

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance was a landmark title for the series. It broke new ground by introducing 3D graphics, cinematic cutscenes, and voice acting for the first time. Importantly, it was also the first Fire Emblem game released on home consoles in western markets, as previous titles like Blazing Blade and Sacred Stones had only been available on the Game Boy Advance.

Here’s an official description for Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance’s story, straight from Nintendo.

For generations, humans and the half-human Laguz have lived with a history of conflict, suspicion, and shaky agreements. Now, a dark threat has risen, manipulating them into open war. The fate of the land of Tellius rests on the shoulders of Ike, a young mercenary, and his diverse group of soldiers.

The relationship between these two races is a surprisingly powerful and important story, tackling complex themes not usually found in Nintendo games. However, the Fire Emblem series has always been praised for its compelling stories, in addition to its strategic gameplay.

Okay, so a lot of people consider this Fire Emblem game to be the absolute best, and honestly, I kinda agree. The problem was, it was only on the GameCube, which meant a lot of us missed out. But with the Switch 2 coming out and Nintendo adding GameCube games to their online service, I knew it was only a matter of time before Path of Radiance would be available for everyone to play – and that’s awesome!
