Square Enix has announced free downloadable content coming to the Final Fantasy series in April, so fans should check it out soon. While the franchise continues to grow with new games, merchandise, and other content—like the recent FF16—there’s still more on the way before Final Fantasy 17, which hasn’t even been officially announced yet.
Many fans are eagerly waiting for news about a possible remake of Final Fantasy 9, and they also want to know when Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be released. Although it feels quiet for the series right now, there are still ways to enjoy it, according to a report from Siliconera. Two free downloads are becoming available, and you can keep them permanently, but you’ll need to claim them before the deadline.

FFXIV Players Will Get Freebies In April
Square Enix is hosting the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2026 from April 24th to 26th. To celebrate, fans can earn free, exclusive chat badges on Twitch. If you watch an official Square Enix stream for the event for just one hour, you’ll receive the Main Scenario Quest Chat Badge.
We’re also giving away a Fat Cat Chat Badge! You’ll receive it just for watching any FFXIV stream for an hour. These are the first rewards of April, with more planned for the Fan Fest events in Europe and Japan this July and October. While it’s not a brand new Final Fantasy game like Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy (which came out in March), it’s a fun way to stay engaged with the series.
Final Fantasy 14 Is Still Going Strong
The MMORPG Has Issues That Square Enix Is Addressing
The popular online game, Final Fantasy XIV, has faced some challenges recently, particularly after the release of its Dawntrail expansion and the content that followed the main story. Player numbers and the overall quality of new content have decreased, and Square Enix, along with the game’s director Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), have publicly admitted this.
Despite the challenges, efforts are being made to improve things, and the company has made positive strides, particularly with content for dedicated players. The new Raids and activities are keeping players engaged, and Final Fantasy XIV is a major contributor to Square Enix’s overall gaming success.
The next Fan Fest event will likely be where Square Enix reveals what’s coming for their online role-playing game and how they plan to address the issues that have affected it recently. Although it’s uncertain if these changes will be successful, the company appears dedicated to continuing the game even after the impactful story ending of Endwalker.
