As a seasoned Tekken veteran with countless hours spent mastering moves and strategies, I must say that the latest announcement at The Game Awards 2024 has sent my heart racing! Bandai Namco’s decision to bring Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy 16 into Tekken 8 is simply electrifying.
Players of Tekken 7 are experiencing intense nostalgia since Bandai Namco revealed that a character from the Final Fantasy series will be added to the roster for Tekken 8. This announcement was made at The Game Awards 2024, where the developer showcased Clive Rosfield, a character from Final Fantasy 16, who is poised to set his opponents ablaze in his upcoming fight.
Alongside a blazing new gameplay video that highlighted Clive’s combat skills, it was also revealed that a fresh Battle Stage is set to debut in Tekken 8. The release date and additional details were disclosed in the trailer and through the official Tekken social media platforms, where fans can expect some Final Fantasy-inspired items to be included in gameplay.

For the very first time, it’s not a novelty that a character from Final Fantasy is appearing in Tekken, as Prince Noctis from Final Fantasy 15 joined the Tekken 7 lineup back in 2018. This brought Hammerhead gas station into the game as a downloadable stage for battles. Moving forward, Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy will be the second character to guest star in Tekken, being available as DLC for players who own the Character Year 1 Pass starting on December 16th, 2024, for an initial 72-hour Early Access period before its full release on December 19th, 2024.
In addition to introducing Clive Rosfield as a new character, the Phoenix Gate, a crucial location in Final Fantasy 16 that significantly impacts Clive’s fate, will soon serve as the next DLC Battle Stage. This stage vividly portrays significant milestones in his journey to confront his past, using Eikons and breathtaking special effects.
In an exciting turn of events, the new character unveiled for Tekken 8 took place on a significant night when Tekken was honored with “The Game Award” for the best fighting game, outshining Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, MultiVersus in the category. The Tekken 8 Character Year 1 Pass is now up for purchase on consoles and PCs, offering players an early glimpse of Clive Rosfield prior to his fiery entrance in Tekken 8 before its official debut.
