The holidays often bring up a lot of feelings, and it’s funny how going home can make you feel like a kid again, no matter how old you are. I definitely experience that, and it seems Felicity Jones‘ character in the new movie Oh. What. Fun does too – the film, scheduled for release in 2025, features some amusingly awkward moments, including a scene involving a bed.
In the 2025 Christmas movie, Felicity Jones stars as Channing, the oldest daughter of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character, Claire. Channing brings her entire family to her parents’ house for the holidays. They end up staying in what seems to be her old bedroom, but there’s a catch: it only has one twin bed, and she and her husband, played by Jason Schwartzman, are expected to share it throughout their visit.
I recently spoke with actress Felicity Jones and was surprised to learn what she revealed about a storyline involving beds in “Oh. What. Fun.” I had been wondering why her character’s mom never discussed the bed situation, and Felicity explained the entire subplot is actually symbolic of something much more profound.
The film explores how Channing feels emotionally stuck in childhood, despite being an adult. Her return home and the presence of her childhood bed symbolize this feeling, as she’s often treated like a child by her parents. Throughout the movie, she attempts to communicate that she needs to be seen as an adult for their relationship to improve, reaching a critical turning point in the process.
I initially assumed her explanation about sharing a single bed was just a playful idea. But now that I understand the real reason, I see things completely differently.
It’s often tough for parents to accept that their children are adults with their own lives and families, and want to create their own holiday traditions. This is a central conflict for Jones’ character in the film. To be honest, she could really benefit from being as assertive as Jyn Erso when dealing with her mother – something many of us, myself included, find difficult.
The single bed represents Channing’s inner turmoil, but I was right to find it genuinely funny. As Jones explained to TopMob:
The bed was a funny sight – it was small, and two people trying to share it was just comical. It was also really bouncy and springy, which added to the humor.
Overall, Oh. What. Fun. is a funny show, and you’ll likely laugh a lot more than you’ll feel sad while watching it. You can check it out for yourself if you have an Amazon Prime membership.
