FCC Chairman Brendan Carr often makes public statements, and some suggest he’d be better suited to podcasting. On September 22nd, at the 2025 Concordia Annual Summit, Carr addressed a recent controversy involving Jimmy Kimmel. After criticizing Kimmel for several days, Carr clarified that the federal government wasn’t responsible for the show’s brief hiatus. He stated Kimmel’s situation was due to viewership numbers, not government action. Carr also explained his previous comment about handling the situation with Charlie Kirk – suggesting it could be done “easily or the hard way” – was simply a hypothetical response to a potential complaint and wasn’t a threat. Notably, the announcement of Kimmel’s return to television came shortly after Carr’s speech on Monday, on September 23rd.
It’s surprising to see Brendan Carr backtrack on his comments about Jimmy Kimmel, especially since he was heavily criticizing Kimmel just last week. He initially called Kimmel’s remark about Kirk’s attacker “incredibly disturbing” during an interview. It seems he may have faced some internal consequences for those strong words, or perhaps he’s simply realized that comments made on podcasts have a lasting impact. Instead of admitting any misstep, Carr used a recent speech to claim that Democrats misinterpreted his role at the FCC. He stated that the FCC never threatened Disney or ABC over Kimmel’s employment, a claim made despite widespread criticism from both sides of the political spectrum – even Senator Ted Cruz compared Carr to a “mob boss” on his own podcast. It’s clear these individuals have too many platforms to voice their opinions. Ultimately, the only voice that truly matters in this situation is Jimmy Kimmel’s.
