Fathom Sees Record-Breaking Year for Events and Limited Releases, Rebrands as Fathom Entertainment

As a long-time movie enthusiast, I must say that Ray Nutt has truly mastered the art of bringing magic to the big screen. His leadership at Fathom Events (now Fathom Entertainment) has been nothing short of extraordinary, especially considering the challenging times we’ve witnessed in the cinema industry.

In 2024, Fathom Events – a service bringing movies, TV shows, concerts, and other events temporarily to cinemas – experienced its best year ever for limited releases, with sales skyrocketing by 45% to over $145 million. Moreover, their CEO, Ray Nutt, declared that the company will transition to Fathom Entertainment starting from January next year.

This year has been a successful one for Fathom as the re-screenings of iconic films have managed to attract cinema-goers even amidst unpredictable new movie release patterns. The latest triumph for the company was this year’s 15th anniversary rerelease of “Coraline,” which grossed $34 million at the box office, making it Fathom’s highest-grossing film to date.

The partnership-held distributor is broadening its horizons to accommodate additional special events with extended screening periods. This fresh moniker symbolizes our substantial expansion and transformation, marking the commencement of an exciting, innovative phase for the company within the fast-paced media and entertainment industry, as stated in a release.

Since the drop in major movies in cinemas after COVID and the rise of streaming services, today’s audiences are eager for unique, fresh, and relevant experiences at the theater. This interest in specialized content has led to Fathom’s most profitable year yet,” stated Nutt.

In 2025, Fathom will celebrate its 20-year anniversary of producing films, theater productions, concerts, and event programming in unique formats and release schedules. Among their earlier successes were the entire fourth season of “The Chosen” series which grossed $32 million, and the 2023 biopic of Phil Robertson from “Duck Dynasty,” entitled “The Blind,” which generated $17 million in revenue.

As a follower of “The Blind,” I’m thrilled to share that the initial seven-day run has been extended by an extra six weeks, thanks to the evident demand for content that truly connects with underrepresented audiences, as Fathom describes it. Operating in 45 countries and collaborating with cinemas globally, Fathom is dedicated to bringing such resonant stories to us all.
