Fate of Beyond Good and Evil 2 revealed amid massive Ubisoft shakeup

Following major changes at Ubisoft, including the cancellation of six games, it’s been revealed that the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 is continuing as planned, despite previous difficulties.

On January 21, 2026, Ubisoft announced major changes to how it operates. They reorganized their development teams into five main groups called “Creative Houses,” which resulted in the closure of several studios, layoffs for an unspecified number of employees, and the cancellation of six games in development.

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake was cancelled after being in development since 2020. However, another game with a difficult history, Beyond Good and Evil 2, is still reportedly being made, despite almost 18 years of troubled development.

Despite recent changes at Ubisoft, the game announced way back on May 30, 2008, is still in development. However, there’s no confirmed release date yet.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 remains in development amid Ubisoft restructure

The original Beyond Good & Evil came out in 2003 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. Players control Jade as she journeys through an exciting adventure filled with action, puzzles, and a strange, supernatural mystery.

The sequel to Beyond Good and Evil, originally announced nearly twenty years ago, has been stuck in development for a long time, with multiple delays and complete restarts. The last official update came in 2017, and recent reports from 2022 indicated the game was still in the early stages of pre-production.

Even though it’s faced difficulties, Ubisoft is still working on the project, according to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming. Henderson says the current version of the game has been in development since it was first shown in 2017 – meaning developers have been working on this single version for nine years.

In total, the game is said to have cost Ubisoft more than $500 million, due to its exceptionally long development period. Before this, Duke Nukem Forever was notorious for taking 14 years to create before it was finally released.

It’s still unclear when the game will be released. However, if recent reports are accurate, development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 is continuing, and hopefully, it will eventually be released.
