Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 came out in February, and usually we might have moved on to other games by now. But KCD2 has been surprisingly good, and the developers have kept players engaged with regular DLC releases. We’ve already experienced “Brushes with Death” and “Legacy of the Forge,” and soon we’ll be exploring a much more intense story called “Mysteria Ecclesiae,” which means “The Mystery of the Church.”
I got a sneak peek at the new DLC at a private event during the PGA fair, but I can only share my thoughts now, just before it’s released. I only had time to play a small part of the story, so I mainly saw the new area and a few cutscenes. To get the full picture of what the developers at Warhorse Studios have planned for Kingdom Come: Deliverance – including this DLC and future projects – I spoke with Sir Toby, their Community Manager, who always provides great insights.
Detective, Teutonic Knights, and Indiana Jones
This upcoming story addition sounds really promising – it’s shaping up to be a substantial side quest in a location that feels both new and recognizable. We’ll get plenty of new missions to tackle, plus a brand new area to explore. What’s especially exciting is that the story will be more mature and deal with events that happened relatively recently, making it feel very connected to what’s already happened.
The new content will likely be about as long as our second downloadable expansion, offering around 10 to 15 hours of gameplay. Unlike the second DLC, this one won’t have any repeating quests – each one will be completely unique. “Mysteria Ecclesiae” means “the mystery of the church” and refers to a new area within a familiar location. While Sedlec Monastery, near Kuttenberg, is already in the game, you’ll be exploring a brand new map connected to it.
You and Albik, the king’s doctor, are being sent to investigate an outbreak of a deadly, fictional disease – we’re calling it a medieval version of COVID, similar to typhus. People are dying and don’t understand what’s happening, so they’ve requested Albik’s help. Because he’s so valuable to the king, you’ll be accompanying him to provide protection.
You’re attempting to uncover the source of a problem, trying to find the very first case, but things quickly become increasingly strange. The story involves the Teutonic Order, who are on a quest for a mysterious artifact, and you’ll find yourself caught up in their pursuit. Throughout this adventure, Henry will act as a blend of detective and explorer – think Indiana Jones – investigating hidden crypts and searching for unusual clues and relics.
