It seems that Ubisoft is putting a significant effort into developing more multiplayer aspects for the Far Cry series. Although Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed a new installment of Far Cry 7, their CEO, Yves Guillemot, has suggested that they aim to maintain players’ interest in the franchise by emphasizing multiplayer experiences.
According to a report from VGC, during Saudi Arabia’s New Global Sport Conference, Ubisoft executive Guillemot discussed the Far Cry series. He mentioned that the goal is to emphasize the multiplayer features within Far Cry, making it more suitable for extended play by gamers.
It appears that earlier this year, rumors emerged about a revamp of a multiplayer game set in the Far Cry universe, focusing on extraction. This revamp seems to have been caused by a shift in resources towards the development of Far Cry 7. It’s speculated that these are two separate projects, with the extraction shooter being its own standalone title. In this game, players reportedly find themselves in an Alaskan wilderness, where they must struggle against the extreme environment, wildlife, soldiers, and other players.
Previously, it was disclosed that Ubisoft intended to reimagine the Far Cry series. It’s speculated that Far Cry 7 could involve players rescuing their family from a cult, with a real-world 24-hour time limit possibly translating to a three-day experience within the game.
Ubisoft intends to invest more heavily in open-world and live-service games, continuing this focus even after closing projects such as XDefiant.
