‘Fantastic Four’ Trailer: Pedro Pascal Leads Invisible Woman, Human Torch and the Thing in Retro MCU Debut

Marvel has unveiled the first trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”

In this movie, Pedro Pascal from “The Last of Us,” takes on the role of Mr. Fantastic, with Vanessa Kirby from “Napoleon” portraying the Invisible Woman. Joseph Quinn known for “Stranger Things” plays the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach of “The Bear” is cast as the Thing. The ensemble also features Ralph Ineson as Galactus, Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich.

The trailer showcases brief looks into the lives of the superheroes before and post-acquiring their abilities, also offering a glimpse of the villain, Galactus. However, what truly emphasizes is the significance of the Fantastic Four as a team: “No matter what challenges come our way, we confront them united – like a family,” Kirby states in the clip.

The First Family was personally present at the exclusive debut, initiating the trailer presentation. Moss-Bachrach orchestrated the audience’s cheer with a rousing “It’s clash time!” call, while Pascal expressed his feelings about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I haven’t been part of a cast where it felt like family as much as this one,” he remarked. “Every day, I was anxious, asking myself, ‘When will I see them again?’ … We poured all our emotions, energy, and effort into this project.

In this adaptation of the Fantastic Four, the story unfolds against a backdrop of a futuristic 60s Manhattan. Kevin Feige made this clear on “The Official Marvel Podcast,” revealing that the movie will be a period piece, taking place in New York City. However, he hinted that the NYC depicted in this film might not be the one fans have grown accustomed to within the MCU.

Previously, the Fantastic Four were portrayed on the silver screen twice by 20th Century Fox, with Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis taking up their hero roles in two films during the 2000s. However, a disappointing reboot in 2015 introduced Miles Teller, Kata Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell as the new cast. In a clever nod to fans, Chris Evans (now famous for his role as Captain America in the MCU) returned as the Human Torch in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” only to meet a tragic end. More recently, John Krasinski made a brief appearance as Mister Fantastic in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” but he too suffered a similar fate.

The Fantastic Four: Initial Journey” – Directed by Matt Shakman (known for “WandaVision”), with screenplay penned by Peter Cameron, Josh Friedman, and Jeff Kaplan. Kevin Feige takes on the role of producer, Jess Hall is in charge of cinematography, and Michael Giacchino will create the music score.

“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will be released in theaters on July 25.
