Fans Think They Figured Out Doctor Doom’s Connection To The Fantastic Four In The MCU (And It Actually Tracks)

Although Avengers: Doomsday isn’t scheduled to release for over a year, fans are already trying to predict the plot. We know the main cast and that Robert Downey Jr. will play the villain, Doctor Doom, but his motivations remain unclear. Some fans have developed a theory that seems plausible given the limited information available.

A fan recently shared a photo on X (formerly Twitter) from inside the offices of AGBO, the production company run by the Russo Brothers, sparking a theory. The picture shows three costumes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe displayed on mannequins, and the specific characters chosen – and how they were arranged – has led people to speculate about future storylines.

Seeing Doctor Doom, Sue Storm, and Franklin Richards together feels like looking at a family photo. It makes you wonder if they’re a family – or were, in some version of reality.

So far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ve only seen Doctor Doom briefly in a post-credits scene from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In that scene, he’s shown kneeling beside young Franklin Richards. Since Franklin doesn’t seem to be in trouble, this moment suggests Doom may genuinely care about the boy.

The theory suggests that in Doctor Doom’s original universe, Sue Storm and Franklin Richards might be his family – perhaps they once were, and something tragic separated them. This could be why he’s trying to travel across different universes, hoping to find them somewhere else.

The idea is intriguing, and the current evidence doesn’t rule it out. However, we’ve seen a similar plot before – it was the driving force behind Kingpin’s actions in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and things didn’t end well for him.

Doctor Doom is a classic enemy of the Fantastic Four, but it’s unclear if this version of Doom comes from the same reality as the one we saw in First Steps. The scene after the credits, which appears to be from Avengers: Doomsday, could be the first time these characters have met, or they might already know each other well.

Many Twitter users aren’t convinced by this theory, believing Doctor Doom will likely originate from the same universe as The Fantastic Four. We’ll have to wait until the movie’s release on December 18, 2026, to find out for sure.
