Rockstar Games frequently takes action against fan-made projects that aim to enhance their original games. While modifications like improved textures or models may be acceptable in certain instances, more ambitious endeavors such as unauthorized remasters or remakes tend to result in legal intervention by the company.
A few days ago, progress on the Liberty City Preservation Project, a modification moving the map from GTA IV to GTA V, came to a halt. Yet, that doesn’t mean the upcoming modifications won’t continue; one such promising project is set to release its final version by the end of this week.
- We’re talking about Vice City: The NextGen Edition, a modification that ports the entire GTA: Vice City to Grand Theft Auto IV.
- The word “entire” in this case isn’t an exaggeration at all. The creators didn’t limit themselves to just the world map but also recreated all the missions and collectibles in GTA 4, as well as transferred the music. In practice, this will therefore be an unofficial remaster of Vice City.
- The final version of the mod is set to be released this Saturday.
- Announcing the launch date, the devs also released a new trailer, which you can watch below.
With just a few days remaining before the premiere, it’s unlikely that Rockstar Games’ legal team will be able to halt this project. Even if the studio attempts to intervene later on, their efforts would come after the launch of Vice City: The NextGen Edition. Consequently, any actions they might take would have no effect because a backup (mirror) is always discoverable.
