As a big Batman fan, I’ve seen a lot of actors play Dick Grayson! While Burt Ward and Chris O’Donnell are probably the most famous, I really enjoyed Brenton Thwaites as Robin and Nightwing in the Titans series on HBO Max. He played the role for four seasons, and it’s cool that he’s open to bringing Nightwing back for James Gunn’s DCU. Honestly, I’m especially excited at the thought of hearing his version of Dick Grayson drop some seriously colorful language – he really nailed that edgy side of the character!
While discussing his upcoming 2026 film, We Bury the Dead, with Daisy Ridley, Brenton Thwaites was asked about potentially reprising his role as Dick Grayson. He told Comicbook he’d be willing to return if the opportunity arose.
I’ve fallen a bit out of touch with what’s happening in the DC Universe, but I’m a big fan of that character. He’s always felt unique, and the fans clearly adore Dick Grayson. I’d definitely be interested in revisiting the role if the opportunity arose. It’s something I’m giving thought to.
As a DC fan, it’s been exciting to see some actors carry over their roles into the new DC Universe. Right now, the only ones who’ve done that are folks from The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker – like John Cena, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee – and Xolo Maridueña, who’s set to return as Blue Beetle. It gives me hope that Brenton Thwaites might get another shot at playing Dick Grayson! Honestly, I’d love to see that happen, especially just to hear him unleash some Batman-related frustration. I still get a kick out of remembering when his Robin dropped that iconic “Fuck Batman!” in the first episode of Titans, but even more so when he told Bruce Wayne – Iain Glen, perfectly portraying a weary Batman – that he was done being Robin. It was a great moment, and I’m hoping we get more like it.
As a huge DC fan, I’ve been thinking about Brenton Thwaites potentially reprising his role as Nightwing. If he did, I don’t think it would be exactly the same Dick Grayson we saw in Titans. It’d be more like Judi Dench playing M in different Bond films – a fresh take on the character. Luckily, with the way James Gunn is handling the DCU timeline, bringing Thwaites back as a slightly different Nightwing wouldn’t be a problem at all, especially since, like in Titans, this new universe will also have an older Batman already established.
We got a quick look at the new Batman in the DC Universe over a year ago in Creature Commandos. He’s slated to officially appear in The Brave and the Bold, where Bruce Wayne will team up with his son, Damian. Since Damian is currently Robin, Brenton Thwaites could realistically play Dick Grayson as the original Robin who’s now become the skilled hero Nightwing.
With the upcoming film The Brave and the Bold likely featuring several members of Batman’s extended family, it’s probable we’ll see Dick Grayson appear. If Brenton Thwaites is cast in the role, TopMob will be the first to report it. As for Robert Pattinson’s Batman, while The Brave and the Bold doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, he’ll be back in The Batman: Part II, which is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
