Fan-made „remake” of iconic Need for Speed Underground 2 received playable demo

A dedicated group of enthusiasts has been tirelessly crafting an unsanctioned reboot of the beloved “Need for Speed: Underground 2″, using the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5. Now, they’ve unveiled their initial demonstration of the project.

The project is quite remarkable for its early development stage, but it seems closer to an enhanced version rather than a complete overhaul. This is due to the fact that it’s primarily the work of one developer, with only a few others helping out. Consequently, developing new visual assets from the ground up wasn’t feasible. Instead, they were ported from the original game and slightly adjusted for use in Unreal Engine 5.

It appears that some players had greater anticipations, as evidenced by the comments below the video on NostalgiaNexus’ YouTube channel. Several individuals express frustration that what they received is essentially a remaster using a new engine. On the other hand, others highlight how remarkable it is to see such an authentic replication of the gameplay in Need for Speed: Underground 2.

It’s notable that this isn’t the sole project of its kind. A different team of enthusiasts are in the process of adapting Need For Speed: Most Wanted to Unreal Engine 5, but as of now, no demo for this project has been released.
