Fan Favorite MCU Casting Just Got Complicated As Glen Powell Candidly Responds

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanding all the time, plenty of popular actors haven’t appeared in it yet. Many fans have often wondered if Glen Powell will eventually join the MCU.

In a recent interview with Collider, actor Stephen Powell shared how he’s finding opportunities for action similar to superhero roles through his new Hulu series, Chad Powers, which premiered on September 30, 2025. He explained that he and writer Michael Waldron intentionally developed Chad Powers as a superhero story from the beginning.

Powell explained that there’s a clear parallel to the Batman/Bruce Wayne dynamic, describing it as having a powerful, public persona alongside a more hidden, private self. He expressed his fondness for the core concept of superhero stories – the idea of dual identities and secret lives – but clarified he isn’t specifically trying to emulate any one particular superhero.

The 37-year-old actor shared his thoughts on superhero narratives in television and film, explaining that what he’s always enjoyed about them is the sense of creation and development they offer – like witnessing something new being built. He also mentioned that he personally struggles to connect with characters after they gain superpowers, feeling a loss of emotional resonance once they become ‘super’ because it distances him from their humanity.

I’m really enjoying this experience. What I especially love about ‘Running Man’ is that it’s about a regular person facing incredible challenges. Those kinds of underdog stories are what originally drew me to filmmaking. And I’m a big fan of the work both Marvel and DC are doing – I think it’s all fantastic.

I’m really inspired by movies from the 80s, early 90s, and early 2000s that feature ordinary people fighting against powerful forces – those classic underdog stories. They make you feel like you could be the hero too, if you just had the courage and energy. That’s what I connect with. Superhero movies don’t resonate with me in the same way because they don’t feel as relatable.

Many fans want John Boyega to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he has support from a key collaborator as well. Michael Waldron, who worked with Boyega on the popular ‘Chad Powers’ sketch, publicly stated in an interview with The Playlist on October 17, 2025, that he’d like to see Boyega cast as Nova in the MCU.

Marvel Studios was developing a TV show called Nova, but the project—along with Strange Academy and Terror Inc.—was put on hold by Marvel Television on February 20, 2025. Ed Bernero was set to be the showrunner before development stopped.

It’s unclear if the Nova series will happen after the current storyline ends, as Marvel Studios is focused on completing its Phase 6 projects. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already introduced the Nova Corps, which creates a possibility for the character Richard Rider to appear in the future.
