‘Fallout’ Fans Need to Watch These 6 Action Shows

While the Fallout TV series is a strong take on the well-loved video game, other action shows offer even more excitement. The first season of the Prime Video series launched in April 2024, and fans were thrilled when the first episode of Season 2 arrived on December 17, 2025 – a day earlier than expected. The show combines a harsh post-apocalyptic world with the emotional story of Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) as she searches for her father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan). Season 2 has received high praise on Rotten Tomatoes and is proving to be a hit with both viewers and critics who have been eagerly awaiting new episodes for over a year.

While everyone’s loving Fallout Season 2, there are other exciting action shows worth checking out. These series, including a fantastic adaptation of a video game and a star-studded show on Paramount+, deliver the same kind of thrilling adventures, intense fights, and unexpected plot twists.

‘Twisted Metal’

Peacock

While Fallout successfully captures the spirit of its video game source material, Twisted Metal might be an even more thrilling TV show. The series, which debuted on Peacock in 2023 and currently has two seasons (with a third on the way), is a uniquely imaginative and delightfully over-the-top story.

While both Twisted Metal and Fallout depict post-apocalyptic worlds, Twisted Metal feels more frightening because its premise is more believable. Fallout‘s vaults seem far-fetched, but the lawless world of Twisted Metal – where criminals run rampant after society collapses – feels like a scenario that could realistically unfold. The Peacock series also…

When it comes to compelling villains, this story really shines compared to Fallout. Seriously, who wouldn’t be captivated by Sweet Tooth – a clown who travels in an ice cream truck while causing chaos?

‘Jack Ryan’

Prime Video

The popular book series Jack Ryan by Tom Clancy has seen numerous adaptations, but many consider the four-season series on Prime Video to be the most successful. A key reason for this is John Krasinski, who brings both charisma and charm to the lead role. Both viewers and critics have lauded Krasinski’s performance as a CIA analyst working in counterterrorism. He convincingly portrays the character’s anxieties and determination to excel, making his story compelling and relatable.

It’s likely that Jack Ryan attracts a broader audience than Fallout. Viewers might be drawn in by John Krasinski’s popular role on The Office or his work on the horror film A Quiet Place. Unlike Fallout, which many viewers will approach having already played the video game, Jack Ryan is accessible even if you haven’t read Tom Clancy’s books or seen the previous movies.

‘The Boys’

Prime Video

While not perfect, both The Boys and its spin-off Gen V are incredibly entertaining. The thrilling story of the corrupt Vought International and its battles with flawed heroes—the ‘Supes’—featuring characters like Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), will conclude with Season 5, coming to Prime Video in April 2026.

Both Fallout and The Boys are fantastic adaptations, but they offer very different experiences. Fallout’s post-apocalyptic world, particularly New Vegas in Season 2, is incredibly immersive. However, The Boys stands out with its unique blend of humor, sharp political insights, and a compelling exploration of good versus evil—all without feeling heavy-handed. While Fallout excels at creating a memorable and frightening atmosphere, The Boys offers a fresh and imaginative take on the superhero genre, which is a welcome change from typical superhero stories.

‘Lioness’

Paramount+

While Lucy is a strong action lead, Lioness stands out because it features two compelling and capable female characters who could dominate in any fight scene, making it a more exciting series than Fallout. Watching Zoe Saldaña as CIA agent Joe McNamara, who leads the Lioness program, and Laysla De Oliveira as team member Cruz Manuelos, is particularly enjoyable. It’s no surprise the Taylor Sheridan series on Paramount+ has been renewed for a third season, given the fantastic performances from both actresses.

Everyone’s enjoying Walton Goggins’ performance as The Ghoul in Fallout, but Lioness boasts a fantastic cast too, featuring stars like Morgan Freeman and Nicole Kidman. Taylor Sheridan, known for blending personal drama with action, really showcases that skill in Lioness. While he’s hugely popular for his Western Yellowstone, Lioness proves he’s a versatile storyteller, capable of crafting compelling stories in different genres, such as the crime drama Tulsa King.

‘Reacher’

Amazon Prime Video

When it comes to great action shows, Reacher deserves to be in the conversation. Adapting a popular book series for TV is always challenging, especially when fans have high expectations. Reacher, starring Alan Ritchson as the lead character, is based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, and viewers are eagerly awaiting the new season.

Both Reacher and Fallout are gripping shows, but Reacher is a more immediately enjoyable experience to watch all at once. Each season of Reacher has eight episodes, and with a new challenge for the hero in each one, the show follows a predictable, satisfying pattern. Fallout is best enjoyed at a slower pace, allowing viewers to uncover its complex details and connections to the game. Reacher, on the other hand, is fast-paced and designed to be binged quickly.

’24’

Fox

When discussing top action shows, 24, which first aired in 2001 and ran for nine seasons, always deserves recognition. The new series Fallout features a compelling lead character, Lucy Maclean, who is strong, intelligent, and well-played by Ella Purnell. However, it remains to be seen if she’ll become as culturally significant as Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) from 24, a truly unforgettable action hero.

When 24 first aired, its innovative real-time format was incredibly captivating and truly changed television. Even today, it remains influential. While Fallout is highly enjoyable and offers fascinating insights into the Vaults, its storytelling approach doesn’t feel quite as groundbreaking.
