The producers of The Expendables might bring back Terry Crews’ character, after leaving him out of the most recent film.
During a conversation with Grant Hermanns from ScreenRant about a fan campaign for a new Call of Duty game, Sylvester Stallone hinted at a potential return to The Expendables films. This comes after Lionsgate regained the rights to the franchise.
According to Crews, he learned about potential new projects for ‘The Expendables’ during a meeting with Lionsgate around two months ago.
Sylvester Stallone, known for his role in Hale Caesar, shared that there are many possibilities being considered for future Expendables projects. He mentioned discussions about TV shows, movies, and spin-offs.
The conversation turned to the current trend of entertainment focused on the past. Crews explained, “Nostalgia is incredibly popular right now. We need to look back in order to move forward, and I’m completely on board with that idea.”
The actor, known for his role in The Expendables, then discussed working with Sylvester Stallone and other cast members, suggesting the film series has the potential to last as long as Stallone’s Rocky or Rambo franchises.
We stumbled into this unexpectedly, and it became incredibly popular. I really believe there’s potential for even more projects like it. We need to keep exploring new ideas! Seeing the success of franchises like ‘Creed’ and ‘Rocky’ proves there’s an audience for these kinds of stories, and with characters like Caesar surviving, we have a solid foundation to build on. Things are looking great.

Lionsgate announced last week that it has purchased the rights to the Expendables film series and a new Rambo prequel movie from Millennium Media.
While the fourth Expendables movie didn’t perform well at the box office in 2023 – earning only $51 million worldwide despite costing $100 million to make – the series as a whole has been quite successful, bringing in $840 million globally. As of now, a fifth Expendables film hasn’t been officially confirmed.
ScreenRant ranked the Expendables movies and placed the fourth one last, criticizing it for being unoriginal and lacking the fun that defined earlier films. They suggest the franchise needs a major overhaul to stay relevant.
As a big fan of The Expendables, I was really bummed to see Terry Crews wasn’t in the last movie, Expendables 4, after being in the first three! It’s awesome to hear he’s interested in coming back for another one, especially since Dolph Lundgren also said he’d be up for it, as long as certain things happen.
In a 2024 interview with ScreenRant, actor Gunner Jensen said that if Sylvester Stallone is leading the project, he believes Stallone is developing a new chapter with the team, and he’s confident it would be a great experience to work on.
The latest Expendables movie appears to be passing the leadership torch from Sylvester Stallone’s Barney Ross to Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas. Barney Ross has a smaller part in this film, and is even presumed dead for most of it before making a dramatic return at the end.
