The Magic: The Gathering and Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration is almost here! We’re excited to share a first look at one of the new Scene Boxes being released.
2025 has been a fantastic year for Magic: The Gathering, and the card game is finishing strong with its second-to-last set of the year. Following the huge popularity of the recent Final Fantasy collaboration, Wizards of the Coast is planning another visit to the ‘Universes Beyond’ – bringing content from other popular franchises into the game.
A special Magic: The Gathering set will feature characters and storylines from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The world and spiritual elements of the popular animated series fit perfectly with the Magic: The Gathering game.
Magic: The Gathering and Avatar: The Last Airbender have teamed up to create a special collector’s item for devoted fans of the Avatar world. TopMob is thrilled to be the first to show you the Black Sun Invasion Scene Box, one of two stunning sets designed as a tribute to the series.

What are the MTG x ATLA Scene Boxes?
The Black Sun Invasion Scene Box is a special collector’s item from the Magic: The Gathering and Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration. It features a memorable moment from the show – the dramatic Day of Black Sun Invasion.
The battle was Aang and his friends’ initial effort to defeat the ruthless Fire Lord Ozai, taking advantage of a temporary weakening of his powers during a solar eclipse. With the help of the many allies they’d made along the way, they bravely attacked the Fire Nation’s capital city.
This Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender collection box comes with several extras, but the most exciting part is a set of six shiny, foil cards. When arranged together, these cards create a beautiful scene depicting the Black Sun Invasion, as illustrated by artist Fahmi Fauzi.
MTG x ATLA – The Black Sun Invasion Scene Box contents
Although there won’t be any pre-made Commander decks for the Magic: The Gathering and Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration, the Black Sun Invasion Scene Box provides everything you need to build your own. It contains:
- 3 Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender Play Boosters
- 6 traditional foil scene cards
- 6 art-only scene cards
- 1 display easel
Art-only scene cards let you keep the beautiful artwork visible on your easel even while you’re using standard cards to play the game.
These cards are a great addition to any deck inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender. If you’re lucky enough to find the rare ‘Avatar Aang’ card, you can use all the cards together! See previews of all 6 scene cards below.

Appa, The Vigilant

This tougher version of Appa is a large presence on the battlefield with a 6/6 stat line. While his seven mana cost means he enters the game a bit later, his powerful ability makes him a valuable asset in longer Commander games.
Okay, so Appa, The Vigilant is seriously awesome. Whenever one of your creatures enters the battlefield, it gets a +1/+1 boost and gains flying, which is already great. But the best part? He has vigilance! That means your creatures can attack without tapping, leaving them free to block or use abilities right after. It’s a huge advantage and makes building an aggressive board state so much easier.
This effect can happen repeatedly whenever you play an Ally creature, and the Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender set includes many creatures with the Ally tag. Because of this, it should be simple to activate Appa, The Vigilant often and consistently have extra creatures available to defend with.
Katara’s Reversal

Katara’s Reversal is a versatile Instant spell that can give you an edge in any situation. You can use it to stop your opponent’s plans by countering their spells, or boost your own by untapping up to four of your creatures or artifacts to activate their abilities again.
This card offers a lot of value for its cost, and like other cards in the Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender set, it’s designed to work well with many different color combinations.
Fire Nation Turret

The Fire Nation Turret is a helpful item that boosts any of your creatures with +2 Power and the ability ‘Firebending 2’ at the beginning of each battle. Creatures with ‘Firebending 2’ create two red mana each time they attack, which is great for quickly playing Instant cards, especially if you have multiple creatures with this ability.
If you have a Fire Nation Turret on the battlefield, it’s a good idea to use your mana to add Charge tokens to it. If you can keep it safe and get it to 50 Charge tokens, you can defeat most opponents in one attack, even those who gain a lot of life.
Swampbenders

Swampbenders get stronger and tougher based on how many Swamps you control. Luckily, they also transform all your Lands into Swamps, helping you build up that power.
Swampbenders are powerful creatures costing six mana. Playing them when you have enough lands allows them to enter the battlefield as a strong 6/6. If you continue to play lands, they’ll become even more formidable.
Sokka’s Charge

Okay, so Sokka’s Charge is a decent Enchantment. It gives all my Ally creatures double strike and lifelink, which is awesome. Honestly, there are so many Ally cards in this Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender set that a lot of my deck will get a boost from having this in play. It’s a pretty solid card because of that!
Having both double strike and lifelink will help you stay alive by healing you for every point of damage you deal – essentially doubling your healing received. It’s a great way to recover health with each attack.
Earthshape

Earthshape is a quick-to-use card that shields you from your opponent’s spells (Instants and Sorceries), even those with hexproof. It can also be used to attack, utilizing the new Earthbending ability.
With ‘Earthbend 3’, you can turn one of your Land cards into a powerful 3/3 creature that can attack right away. Plus, it also gives all your other creatures with 3 or less power the ability to avoid being targeted by your opponent’s spells or abilities.
That concludes our look at the Black Sun Invasion Scene Box. The Magic: The Gathering and Avatar: The Last Airbender set releases on November 21, 2025, and you can pre-order it now.
I’m so excited for the new set! If you want to play it early, the Wizards Store Locator is the best way to find local game stores hosting prerelease events. They’re happening from November 14th to 20th, 2025, so mark your calendars!
