Xbox president Sarah Bond believes the concept of exclusive games is becoming outdated. In a recent interview, she explained that gamers are moving beyond the expectation that games should only be available on a single platform or store.
Popular games like Call of Duty, Minecraft, Fortnite, and Roblox are widely accessible, and this accessibility is key to building strong gaming communities. People naturally gather around these games, so limiting them to a single store or device feels outdated, according to a recent interview with Mashable.
We want players to connect with their friends no matter what device they’re using, and the Rog Ally X is designed to make that happen. It’s another way to enjoy gaming, alongside options like cloud gaming, PC, and traditional consoles.
Microsoft used to focus heavily on games you could only play on their systems, but they’ve recently changed their approach. Now, they’re releasing games on more platforms, even those made by competitors.
Sony is expanding where you can play its games, now offering them on PC and even Xbox, as seen with Helldivers 2. Nintendo, on the other hand, keeps its games exclusive to Nintendo consoles, and this strategy has been successful for them.
Microsoft doesn’t have a consistent approach to releasing its games; some appear on multiple platforms at the same time, while others don’t. There’s a possibility that Starfield, a popular Xbox game, could be released on PlayStation, with an announcement potentially coming in 2026.
Sources say Microsoft is planning to reveal a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, and there’s a possibility it could also be released on PlayStation 5.
So, I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter about the next Xbox. Apparently, someone at Microsoft, Bond I think, called it “high-end,” and everyone’s getting worried it’s going to cost a fortune. Honestly, it’s got a lot of us gamers a little anxious about whether we’ll be able to afford it when it finally drops.
