Ex-Battlefield 6 dev lashes out at EA for leaving him out of credits

A developer who previously worked on the campaign for Battlefield 6 has criticized EA for leaving him and several of his former team members out of the game’s credits.

Honestly, the campaign for Battlefield 6 was a bit of a rollercoaster to make, but it ended up being pretty good, even if it was a little short. It definitely had a rough development process!

Electronic Arts created Ridgeline Games to develop future story content for the series. The studio was founded by Marcus Lehto, a well-known game developer who spent fifteen years at Bungie and played a key role in making the Halo franchise so successful.

Lehto left the team in February 2024, and the studio was closed down by EA the next month as they focused resources on completing the game. With Battlefield 6 now released, many members of the Ridgeline team, including Lehto, haven’t received proper credit for their work, and Lehto has publicly raised concerns about this.

Battlefield 6 campaign developers excluded from credits

In an October 20th LinkedIn post, first noticed by VGC, Lehto voiced his frustration that several of his previous coworkers weren’t given proper credit for their work on Battlefield 6.

While a few people received thanks at the end, they weren’t formally credited for their contributions. Many others, like Lehto, weren’t mentioned at all.

According to Lehto, the game’s skilled developers spent between one and two and a half years creating its core elements. Ridgeline specifically focused on developing the overall story, defining the characters, and planning out how the game’s missions would progress.

Lehto was specifically credited with developing more free-form, open-ended gameplay. We got a taste of this in Mission 8 of Battlefield 6’s campaign, which many considered the highlight. Reportedly, a significant amount of similar gameplay was cut from the final game after the Ridgeline studio was shut down.

Lehto identified 36 people who worked on the game, but only eight received credit in the game itself. Electronic Arts hasn’t commented on the discrepancy yet.

“Game development is a team effort, and every contributor deserves fair acknowledgment.”
