Everything That Happened at the Golden Eve

Just before the Golden Globes ceremony this year, a special event called Golden Eve: The Golden Globes Honor Helen Mirren & Sarah Jessica Parker was held to recognize Helen Mirren and Sarah Jessica Parker with Lifetime Achievement awards. The event, which took place on January 6th at the Beverly Hilton, honored Sarah Jessica Parker with the Carol Burnett Award for her work in television and Helen Mirren with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her contributions to film. This includes their acceptance speeches, as well as tributes from those who celebrated them that night.

What did people say about Sarah Jessica Parker at the Golden Eve?

When Parker was introduced, she brought her husband, Matthew Broderick, who fondly recalled their first meeting. He remembered she was wearing a quirky outfit – boots, a bright orange puffer coat, and textured long underwear – on their way to a movie. However, Broderick was ultimately drawn to Parker’s talent as an actress. He explained that she makes acting look so natural, it’s easy to overlook the skill and courage it takes to bring your unique and playful self to your work. He also shared how much joy it brings him to make Sarah Jessica laugh, describing her laughter as one of life’s greatest pleasures. Later, Colman Domingo gave a toast, celebrating Parker and Burnett for their humor, sophistication, boldness, and grace.

No tribute would be complete without a member of the Sex and the City cast. Kristin Davis fondly recalled first meeting Sarah Jessica Parker, describing her kindness and caring nature. She spoke about the show’s message of finding family in unexpected places, and how they’ve remained close friends ever since, becoming emotional during her speech.

When Parker accepted her award, she thanked Burnett for bringing her parents together – they met while auditioning for a local production of Once Upon a Mattress – and for inspiring her passion for acting. She fondly recalled, “Thirty years later, it was amazing to play Princess Winnifred in the first Broadway revival, and Carol came to see it, being as kind and supportive as always.” Parker described Burnett as a guiding light in her life.

Helen Mirren is a bad ass, per Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford presented Helen Mirren with the Cecil B. DeMille award, jokingly calling her a “badass” rather than a “dame” and praising her powerful performances. Viola Davis followed, beautifully describing Mirren’s ability to deeply connect with her characters and reveal their humanity. Davis highlighted Mirren’s artistry, noting that she reminds us even the most powerful characters are still fundamentally human, and that true acting requires both wonder and insightful understanding.

Mirren started her speech by playfully referring to the Golden Globe statues as “two large balls” and expressed her joy at receiving an award recognizing her entire career. She explained that while the DeMille Award was presented as a celebration of her professional achievements, she preferred to see it as a tribute to a life fully lived – with all its challenges and joys – and one she hoped would continue for a long time. She joked that she wasn’t ready to write her life story just yet, but if this were a memorial, she was delighted by who had come to celebrate with her – and was even keeping track of those who hadn’t.
