Everything Anna Delvey Does on Dancing With the Stars

As a cinephile with a penchant for unconventional storylines and unexpected twists, I must say that the debut of Anna Delvey, the infamous scammer-turned-dancer on Dancing With the Stars, has certainly piqued my interest. Having watched countless reality shows and documentaries about con artists, I find myself intrigued by this audacious character who seems to turn every situation into an opportunity for reinvention.

In a twist of events, the popular show Dancing With the Stars has stirred up some debate. The fact that Anna Delvey, a former con artist who was convicted of scamming, is one of the season 33 contestants, has not pleased everyone. Despite being under house arrest, she managed to secure a podcast and reality show deal. As the September 17 premiere on ABC approaches, Delvey seems unfazed by the prospect, jokingly stating that they won’t arrest her for poor dancing. However, many have expressed concerns about her presence on television. The showrunner of DWTS, Conrad Green, defended the decision, stating that they’ve had contestants with criminal backgrounds in the past and that Delvey has served her time, making it fair for her to participate. We’ll be keeping an eye on how this unfolds.

Opening night: A caffeinated cha-cha

For the closing dance number of the evening, a woman with curly hair, known as a “fashionista and entrepreneur,” went for a cha-cha with Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso”. She was adorned with a bedazzled ankle monitor and partnered with pro dancer Ezra Sosa. Despite being linked to grand larceny in the past, she expressed her desire to present a different side of herself on DWTS. In her introduction, she stated that her tenacity is a valuable trait to harness for something constructive, and added that she has rebranded herself multiple times. This time, she plans to become a ballroom dancer, similar to the character who inspired Netflix’s Inventing Anna.

After the show, judge Carrie Ann Inaba noted that the atmosphere in the room noticeably changed when Delvey began dancing. Inaba encouraged everyone to give Delvey and Sosa’s performance a chance and concentrate on their dancing skills. The duo was awarded 18 out of 30 points, which is not exceptional but also not terrible. Delvey commented, “I’m glad I won’t have to do that dance again.” Although she didn’t express a desire for a new dance, it seems she has no choice since nobody was sent home tonight (but there will be a double elimination next week).
