At the New York City premiere of Marty Supreme, it was Bring Your Mother to Work Day! Timothée Chalamet and his mother, Nicole Flender, both wore orange, matching the film’s color scheme. Apple Martin stepped out in a Calvin Klein gown borrowed from her mother, Gwyneth Paltrow – the very same dress Paltrow wore to the Emma premiere back in 1996. Meanwhile, director Josh Safdie was accompanied by Julia Fox, who he considers both literally and figuratively a mother figure.
The New York premiere of Marty Supreme felt perfectly New York. Held at Regal Times Square, the red carpet was packed with screaming fans, reminiscent of the TRL days. The afterparty at The National Arts Club continued the New York love, with Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani chatting with Fran Drescher. Over by the catering – a whole roasted pig with an orange in its mouth instead of an apple – the Shark Tank crew celebrated Kevin O’Leary. The orange was a playful nod to the film’s focus on branding and visual themes.
The movie Marty Supreme follows a charming con artist, and its promotional events have been just as deceptive and attention-grabbing. They included a blimp, a staged Zoom call, and merchandise releases that seemed to reference Timothée Chalamet’s personal life. Even Gwyneth Paltrow got involved, wearing orange on Late Night With Seth Meyers. This premiere marks the peak of the film’s publicity, as it officially releases in theaters on Christmas Day.
Timothée Chalamet has been consistently emphasizing the importance of having big dreams during interviews for his new movie. He even cited Susan Boyle as a major inspiration, praising her 2009 performance on Britain’s Got Talent and saying she “dreamed bigger than all of us.” He jokingly wondered, though, if she ever received the iconic tracksuit often given to contestants.
