Good news for animation lovers! The studio is having incredible success, and their new film, Hoppers, is a huge hit. It received fantastic reviews and earned more money during its opening weekend than any other original animated movie since Coco in 2017. This is a big achievement for the studio, particularly as they prepare for another release in 2025.
The next film in the popular Toy Story series, Toy Story 5, will show Woody with a receding hairline and introduce a new villain: a high-tech tablet that threatens playtime. Recent news also revealed several more Pixar movies planned after its summer release. Here’s a complete list of the confirmed Pixar films coming after Toy Story 5, plus one that’s likely to be announced soon.
Gatto (March 5, 2027)
The movie Luca, directed by Enrico Casarosa, tells the story of Nero, a black cat living in Venice, Italy, who owes a debt to a powerful cat mob boss. He unexpectedly partners with a street artist who takes him in, much to Nero’s dismay. DisneyPixar’s Pete Docter revealed the project in June 2025 while presenting the studio’s future films at the Annecy Animation Festival in France.
Incredibles 3 (2028)
The new Incredibles movie is set to come out ten years after the previous one, with Brad Bird – who wrote and directed the original – returning to write the script and produce. Peter Sohn, known for directing Elemental, will be directing this installment. Pixar’s Pete Docter revealed the news about the sequel at the D23 convention in 2024.
Coco 2 (2029)
Following initial hints in March 2025, a recent article in the Wall Street Journal has officially confirmed that Coco 2 is planned for release in 2029. The director of the original Coco, Lee Unkrich, and co-writer Adrian Molina are both expected to return for the sequel.
Monsters Inc 3 (TBD)
According to sources at the Wall Street Journal, Pixar is currently working on a third Monsters, Inc. movie. The first film came out in 2001, directed by Pete Docter and based on an idea he had while developing Toy Story in the 1990s. A prequel, Monsters University, was released in 2013. However, Pixar hasn’t made any official announcement about the new movie yet.
Ono Ghost Market (TBD)
Pixar is showing it still values new ideas, not just sequels, and is reportedly working on a unique film. According to the Wall Street Journal, the movie, currently titled Ono Ghost Market, is based on Asian folklore about magical marketplaces where the living and the deceased can meet. Pixar hasn’t officially announced the project yet, though it was initially planned as a streaming series.
Untitled Pixar Musical (TBD)
Most excitingly, a new project is in the works. It will be directed by Domee Shi, who previously made Turning Red, according to the Wall Street Journal.
RUMORED: Cars 4
The Cars franchise is one of Pixar’s biggest successes, second only to Toy Story. It includes three full-length movies, five short films, three TV series, and two spin-off movies called Planes. Unlike some other Pixar franchises, the Cars movies didn’t have long gaps between releases; the first film came out in 2006, followed by sequels in 2011 and 2017. John Lasseter, who was Pixar’s chief creative officer at the time, directed the first two Cars films.
As the 20th anniversary of the movie Cars approaches, there’s growing speculation that a fourth film will be announced at the D23 expo in August 2026. While Pixar hasn’t officially confirmed anything, Jay Ward, the franchise’s creative director, suggested a new movie could be in the works back in 2023. For now, it remains a rumor.
RUMORED: Ratatouille 2
Back in 2025, industry source Jeff Sneider reported that a sequel to Brad Bird’s popular 2007 film, Ratatouille, was being planned.
RUMORED: Inside Out 3
While not officially confirmed, many believe the 2024 film will be a massive success at the global box office, potentially becoming the highest-grossing animated movie ever before it’s surpassed by a sequel in 2025. Encouragingly, Dave Holstein, a co-writer on the project, stated at the 2025 Saturn Awards that he was confident a sequel would be approved and indicated that the studio was already in the initial stages of discussion about it.
