Every Major Spider-Man Project In 2026 Has The Same Thing In Common

2026 looks like a huge year for Spider-Man fans! Several exciting projects are planned, including new movies, live-action shows, and animated series, offering plenty of ways to experience the Spider-Man universe beyond just the comic books.

It’s surprising to learn that Tombstone, a lesser-known villain from the Spider-Man comics, will appear in all three major Spider-Man projects coming out this year. Here’s a detailed look at his upcoming roles in those projects, scheduled for 2026.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Set To Give Tombstone His MCU Debut

Coming out on July 31st, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be a more down-to-earth story than the complex, universe-jumping adventures we’ve seen in movies like 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and throughout the current phase of Marvel films.

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows Tom Holland’s Peter Parker dealing with the consequences of Doctor Strange’s spell – nobody remembers him, not even his friends Ned and MJ.

Peter Parker is fully embracing his role as Spider-Man, and we’ll see him facing off against several villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This includes the return of Mac Gargan as the Scorpion, who first appeared in Spider-Man Homecoming, and the dangerous ninja group called The Hand – a threat previously seen in Marvel’s Netflix shows like Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will introduce new villains like Boomerang and Tarantula, as shown in recent footage. Interestingly, Tombstone, a powerful and durable crime boss with distinctive grey skin, wasn’t included in the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He gained his abilities—and appearance—from chemical exposure.

Marvin Jones III will reprise his role as Tombstone, having previously voiced the character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Tombstone is a strong villain for a more grounded, street-level Spider-Man movie, particularly since Marvel Studios currently can’t use Kingpin due to existing rights complications.

Given everything we know, it will be really interesting to see what Tombstone does in the next Marvel movie. It’s easy to picture him funding the villains in Brand New Day, possibly trying to build an even bigger criminal organization in New York. With Kingpin now the mayor (like in Daredevil: Born Again), Tombstone might be aiming to take over as the city’s top criminal leader.

Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir Will Feature A 1930s Version Of Tombstone

Amazon and MGM’s upcoming series, Spider-Noir, offers a fresh take on the Spider-Man story, set apart from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring Nicolas Cage, the show reimagines Spider-Man in a gritty, black-and-white 1930s New York, full of crime, corruption, and heroes with superpowers who operate as detectives.

Similar to the Spider-Man: Brand New Day comics, the new Spider-Noir series will include several well-known villains, but they’ll be portrayed in a more realistic way to fit the 1930s setting.

Just like with Spider-Noir, Tombstone wasn’t a major focus in the initial trailer, but he will appear in the game. He was first shown through official artwork promoting the CCXP event in Mexico.

With Spider-Noir focusing on New York’s organized crime and a mystery around the mob boss Tombstone, he’s a natural fit for the story. He’ll likely work as a strong-arm for Silvermane, alongside Spider-Noir’s take on Sandman and other reimagined villains. Alternatively, this version of Tombstone could be a younger competitor trying to take Silvermane’s place.

Even though both versions feature the same character, Tombstone in Spider-Noir will probably be quite different from how he’s expected to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day within the main Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s surprising to see a relatively obscure comic book character suddenly featured in two big live-action projects within the same year – and there’s even a third appearance planned for 2026!

Marvel Studios’ Animated Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 Will Continue Tombstone’s Origins

The first season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man featured Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone, as an important character. He was presented as a student at the same school as Peter Parker, portrayed as a hardworking athlete and good student who was trying to help his family.

Instead of helping his brother escape the 110th St. Gang, Lonnie finds himself pulled into their world. He eventually becomes involved in their conflict with Mac Gargan’s Scorpions, and after exposure to a chemical called Diox-3, gains superpowers and rises to become their leader. This Diox-3 is the same substance that gave him his powers in the original Marvel comics.

Although Lonnie once helped Spider-Man defeat Gargan, the first season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man suggested a complicated future for him. The show hinted he’d continue his life as the villain Tombstone, leading the 110 gang, and would even stop going to school. At the same time, he was also joining Harry Osborn’s new W.E.B. initiative, implying he’s trying to balance these very different worlds.

In the last episode, viewers noticed Lonnie’s fingertips were grey, hinting at a potentially major change for his character in the upcoming second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, set to release this year.

The character of Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is surprisingly complex and his story is developing in intriguing ways. While he’s not a clear-cut villain – at least not yet – that’s what makes him such a compelling part of the animated series.

Marvel is clearly building up Tombstone as a significant villain, and it seems each appearance will offer a fresh take on the character. It’ll be interesting to see how Tombstone is portrayed in each new Spider-Man movie and series as we move through 2026.
