Eric Kripke just made it clear these two characters will die in The Boys Season 5

Eric Kripke, the showrunner for ‘The Boys’, has cautioned viewers against becoming too invested in any one character. Combined with the ending of the original comic book series, this suggests that two significant characters will likely die before the Prime Video show concludes.

I was reading an interview with Eric Kripke, the showrunner, and he was talking about the final season. He said they really wanted to go all-out with the emotional moments, letting characters have confrontations that would truly change them forever. He said they felt like, because it was the last season, they could really take advantage of that opportunity.

The creator of ‘The Boys’ said it would have felt strange if no major characters had died in the final showdown. He dislikes when large-scale sci-fi shows avoid real consequences for their characters, where everyone ultimately survives without a scratch.

The ending of the latest season of Stranger Things has influenced his thinking. Kripke admitted he finds himself reacting strongly to plot points, feeling characters should face consequences for their actions. He hinted that this means viewers shouldn’t become too invested in any one character, implying that deaths are likely to occur.

Homelander and Butcher die in The Boys comics

Many believe Homelander (Antony Starr) is the most likely character to die in Season 5 of The Boys. However, considering what the showrunner, Eric Kripke, has said and how the original comic book series ends, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) could also be facing a fatal outcome.

In the comic book version of The Boys, Billy Butcher eventually decides that all superpowered individuals – even those on his own team – are the enemy. He then carries out a plan to kill anyone who has been given powers by Compound V.

Butcher unexpectedly attacks and kills several members of the team, including Mother’s Milk, Frenchie, and Kimiko. Hughie Campbell then intervenes, and after a struggle, manages to kill Butcher, preventing him from carrying out his scheme.

Homelander dies earlier in the show during a fight at the White House, losing to Black Noir. It’s then revealed that Noir is actually a clone of Homelander, created as a backup plan. The military quickly kills Noir after that.

I’ve been following the show, and Kripke’s said before that anyone could die, and he’s doubling down on that now. Honestly, it sounds like Season 5 of The Boys might actually kill off Homelander and Butcher, sticking really closely to what happened in the comics. It’s a little scary, but I’m also kind of excited to see how they handle it!

That’s not even counting characters like Frenchie, Kimiko, and Mother’s Milk, who have also been part of the show. We don’t know for sure what will happen until Season 5 is released, but it looks like things are going to get very violent.

The Boys fans wish there were more deaths before Season 5

Fans are reacting to the recent news, and many believe the show The Boys should have killed off more characters earlier. One Reddit user commented, “Honestly, a major character should have died in a previous season.”

One viewer pointed out that the show tends to kill off characters who were recently introduced, rather than those who’ve been with the series since the beginning.

Honestly, most of the deaths weren’t of important characters. One commenter pointed out that the only significant ones they could recall were Victoria Newman, Stillwell, and Black Noir – though even Black Noir’s death felt minor, considering he was mostly a background character for the first two seasons.

Almost all of the characters who weren’t main players either didn’t survive the season they appeared in, or had very minor roles.

Honestly, it’s a good thing to see consequences for the characters’ actions. While I enjoy ‘The Boys,’ most of them are awful people who should face real danger. I really don’t want to see villains like The Deep, Firecracker, and especially Homelander just walk away without paying for what they’ve done.

One viewer commented that they thought only Mother’s Milk, Hughie, and Annie should make it to the end, and also included A-Train. Another person agreed that they’d like to see Mother’s Milk and A-Train survive, but predicted that ultimately it would just be Hughie, Annie, and Ryan who were left.

A viewer noted that the TV show The Boys differs significantly from the comic books, and this could mean the series finale won’t follow the original story’s conclusion.

Kripke is facing a challenge with this adaptation. While he’s proven he’s not afraid to make changes from the original story, the previous series had such a good ending that it felt complete and satisfying, so he needs to strike a balance.

He’s now facing the challenge of creating an ending that significantly differs from the original story. While I’m optimistic – his work on the final episodes of Supernatural’s fifth season was excellent – I’m also a little worried about how it will all turn out.

Season 5 of The Boys will arrive on Prime Video on April 8, 2026. While you wait, you can explore the backstory of Homelander, get the latest updates on the upcoming series Vought Rising, and find out what’s in store for Season 3 of Gen V.
