ESports organizers, ESL, have revealed the full roster of participating teams for the Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) tournament during ESL Pro League Season 21. This action-packed event will be held in Stockholm, Sweden at the ESL Studios in March.

For Stage 2 of ESL Pro League Season 21, the top eight teams based on the most recent Valve Global Standings were directly invited. Similarly, four teams received direct invitations for Stage 1. Besides these direct qualifiers, a total of 12 teams earned their spots through ESL Challenger leagues and various other tournaments.

FaZe Clan is ranked 5th in the VGS, placing them in the second stage of ESL Pro League Season 21 directly. However, they are not included on the list, leading some to question if there was an error made by ESL. But fear not, as it’s actually FaZe Clan that has chosen to forgo participating in this event. This move benefits GamerLegion, who now receives a direct invite to Stage 1 instead.

In the team list announcement post from ESL, the organizer explained that:

In simpler terms, since FaZe Clan turned down their invitation, Team Liquid, ranked 9th in VRS, secured the last spot for Stage 2. As for Stage 1, GamerLegion was invited as the last team joining VRS.

It’s important to note that the schedule for elite teams is incredibly busy, with ESL Pro League Season 21 scheduled from March 1st to March 16th, 2025 in Sweden. Sandwiched between this tournament are two significant events: PGL Cluj-Napoca and BLAST Open Lisbon.

The venue for the tournament is being shifted from Malta to Sweden, while the year 2025 will introduce a new format with two Major-like Swiss systems followed by an eight-team playoff.
