Epic Universe Sees Its First Major Park Death Incident, And It Involves A Popular Ride

Theme park thrill rides are designed to feel exciting and a little scary, but they’re supposed to be safe. Sadly, yesterday a man died after riding a roller coaster at the newly opened Epic Universe theme park. This is the first reported incident of its kind at the park.

A Man Has Died After Riding An Epic Universe Roller Coaster

A man in his 30s died after riding Stardust Racers, a popular roller coaster at Epic Universe, according to Spectrum News 13 in Orlando. He was found unresponsive after the ride and transported to a local hospital, but sadly passed away. Authorities have not yet released his name.

This is a heartbreaking event. Universal Studios, in a statement to Spectrum, said they are working with the Sheriff’s department to investigate and are deeply saddened by what happened. The Stardust Racers attraction is currently closed, and it’s unclear when it will reopen.

Guests at Epic Universe noticed the Stardust Racers roller coaster was unexpectedly closed yesterday. It’s currently unknown exactly when the closure happened, but a guest had ridden the coaster on Wednesday evening and was later found needing assistance, leading to the immediate shutdown of the ride.

Stardust Racers Is The Latest Thrilling Universal Orlando Roller Coaster

Stardust Racers is the most thrilling ride at Epic Universe. This unique coaster features two tracks where trains launch at the same time, racing side-by-side and crossing paths. Guests can choose between two different track experiences – one is more intense than the other – though both offer a high-adrenaline adventure, making them among the most exciting coasters at Universal Orlando.

This thrilling coaster accelerates to 62 mph and climbs a steep 133-foot hill, all while traveling along 5,000 feet of track. The highlight of the ride is the Celestial Spin, where the two coasters simultaneously enter a spinning dive, coming incredibly close to each other.

Stardust Racers documents the creation of two popular roller coasters – Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure – helping to establish Universal Orlando as a premier destination for coaster fans. The ride was built by Mack Rides, the same company behind the Curse of the Werewolf coaster planned for the new Epic Universe park.

Stardust Racers has operated smoothly for months – first during preview events, and then since the opening of Epic Universe – without any problems. While the ride appears to be functioning normally, Universal will conduct a thorough inspection to ensure everything is in perfect working order, just to be absolutely certain.
