As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from laggy connections to glitchy gameplay. But nothing irks me more than seeing cheaters ruin the fun for everyone else. Epic Games taking legal action against Sebastian Araujo is a step in the right direction.

Epic Games has revealed that they are pursuing legal measures against a Fortnite player named Sebastian Araujo, who is suspected of cheating during a competition. The company has filed a lawsuit against him because of several reported incidents of cheating that occurred during the matchplay in the tournament.

In a grievance brought forth by Epic, it is alleged that Araujo employed unauthorized software during various Fortnite competitions, granting him an unfair edge over honest competitors. More precisely, Araujo stands accused of utilizing aimbotting tools and hacks enabling him to detect other players even when they were behind walls. To add insult to injury, Epic suggests that Araujo’s utilization of these cheats in Fortnite tournaments allowed him to pocket substantial cash prizes totaling thousands of dollars.

According to the statement, Araujo received numerous sums of money that other tournament participants – who strictly followed the rules – had little to no opportunity to claim.

Brent Coyle, Competitive Director at Epic Games, stated that they aim to ensure Fortnite tournaments are enjoyable and balanced for all participants. Any individuals found cheating to get an unjust edge can spoil the event for everyone. To prevent such incidents, they’re implementing significant adjustments aimed at curbing cheating in our competitions, including pursuing legal measures against players who violate our regulations.

On previous occasions, Epic Games has dealt with Fortnite cheaters, and it appears they’re doing so again. In a unique turn of events, Epic donated the winnings from a lawsuit against an Australian cheater in 2022 to charity. If successful in this current lawsuit, Araujo may face similar consequences as the PUBG cheat-maker who had to pay $10 million following a lawsuit by Krafton Inc. and Tencent, or the Destiny 2 cheater who was slapped with a $500,000 damages bill in addition to a permanent ban.
