‘English Teacher’ Renewed for Season 2 at FX Despite Sexual Assault Allegation Against Brian Jordan Alvarez

The FX comedy series “English Teacher” has been renewed for Season 2, EbMaster has learned.

The show first aired on FX and Hulu in September 2024, receiving favorable feedback from critics. Brian Jordan Alvarez, who also acts in the series, was its creator. Alongside Alvarez, the cast features Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton, and Carmen Christopher.

Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment, praised ‘English Teacher’ as one of the standout series of 2024 and thanked the team behind it – producers, writers, actors, directors, and crew – for their exceptional creativity. He is excited about the upcoming season,” said Nick Grad.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’ve got some breaking news to share: The recent developments concerning actor Alvarez have left me quite shaken, given the sexual assault accusations leveled against him by his former friend and co-star, Jon Ebeling, from their joint venture on “The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo” – a 2016 webseries that Alvarez produced and starred in. Initially, Ebeling voiced his allegations through an Instagram post in August, which he later elaborated upon in a New York Magazine article published in December. In this exposé, Ebeling also claimed that the writer-star of “English Teacher,” Koenig, played a part in perpetuating the harmful dynamic between Alvarez and himself.

When the report initially surfaced, a representative for FX stated, “We had previously reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet before the show’s debut. Mr. Ebeling never contacted us with any concerns. At this time, we have no further comment.” Upon announcing the renewal of the series, FX failed to address these accusations.

In the series, Alvarez plays the role of Evan Marquez, a character who teaches at a high school in Austin, Texas. He frequently encounters situations where his personal, professional, and political lives intersect. Throughout the first season, Evan juggles his relationships, deals with his students, and works alongside his colleagues, all while pondering whether it’s possible to truly express oneself fully at work: is it really feasible to be one’s authentic self on the job?

Alvarez not only stars in the show but also serves as an executive producer, with this role being shared by Paul Simms, Jonathan Krisel, Dave King, Kathryn Dean, Jake Bender, and Zach Dunn. The production company behind it all is FX Productions.
