As a long-time fan of hip-hop and someone who’s been following both Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s careers closely for over a decade, I must say that this year’s Spotify Wrapped has left me scratching my head. It seems like everyone I know who uses Spotify is sharing their top artists list with Drake in the top five, despite the fact that many of these same people have spent the entire year mocking the Canadian rapper!
Online community members are playfully criticizing Spotify users who listed Drake among their top five artists, despite previously making fun of the Canadian rapper, with a few even pleading with the music platform for a different 2024 Wrapped list.
On Wednesday, December 4th, my favorite music streaming platform, Spotify, unveiled my personalized music recap – Spotify Wrapped! It was thrilling to see that two of my favorite artists, Drake, the talented ‘No Face’ rapper, and Kendrick Lamar from ‘GNX’, topped the US charts this year.
2024 saw a fierce rivalry between these two hip-hop artists, with the final months of the year being dominated by their intense competition. This resulted in numerous songs released and even an entire album filled with lyrical jabs directed at each other.
Even though Lamar’s track ‘Not Like Us’ was the second most-streamed song in the U.S., his musical counterpart, Drake, managed to secure a position five spots above him on the list of the top 10 artists on this year’s Spotify Wrapped in the US.

Despite their enthusiasm for music, some listeners felt awkward about posting their personalized playlists (Wrapped) on social media because a significant number of people listed Drake among their top five favorite artists.
Fans’ shame stemmed from the overall consensus that Lamar won the ‘likeness’ battle between him and Drake — especially after the LA-based rapper took the stage during ‘The Pop Out – Ken & Friends’ concert to perform ‘Not Like Us’ five times in a row.
Netizens troll Spotify users who have Drake as their top five artists
People who ranked Drake among their top five favorite artists this year were quick to jest on social media, pretending to reach out to Spotify to reshuffle their Year in Music (Wrapped) results to omit the Canadian rapper from the list.
I want to change the fact that Drake is my top artist on Spotify. Who should I contact there to make this happen? It feels like he’s paying someone! Let me be independent of him, dude,” said one jokingly.
How can I change the setting at Spotify so that Drake isn’t listed as my top artist in Wrapped? Is there someone I should talk to about this? Who is sponsoring him, I need a release from this situation 😨💔

Apparently, I believe someone hacked me. I’m really embarrassed and feeling quite down about it. Using Drake instead of Jay-Z is unacceptable. I’m considering taking legal steps to restore my reputation on Spotify.” (jokingly)
It was observed humorously that many criticized Drake throughout the year, yet he ultimately became their most favored artist.
“Me seeing Drake on everyone’s Spotify Wrapped even though they hate on him all year,” wrote one.

“Hating Drake is all fun and games until you gotta post your Spotify Wrapped,” added another.
And though some fans might like to see Drake and Lamar end their musical beef, Drake seems to have other plans. He not only slammed Lamar during a stream with xQc, but he also joined Los Pollos’ chat during his Kick stream to throw shade at Lamar and DJ Mustard. As for Lamar, he’s steadily preparing for his ‘Grand National Tour’ with SZA in 2025.
