Electronic Arts removed Denuvo from game, which was deemed a „bad idea” by devs themselves

1) Is Immortals of Aveum still fresh in your mind? This was the first project by Ascendant Studios, but it failed to meet expectations, leading to nearly half of its team being let go shortly after release. Later on, one of the developers admitted that releasing this game was a mistake due to the unpredictable and costly market conditions.

A little over a year since its launch, Electronic Arts, the publisher of my beloved game “Immortals of Aveum”, has chosen to discard the Denuvo anti-piracy shield from it. Frankly, I wasn’t taken aback by this decision, as they’ve made similar moves with games like Tales of Kenzera: ZAU and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in the past.

According to DSOGaming, some players have encountered stuttering issues while playing Immortals of Aveum. Many attribute this problem to Denuvo, a protection system known for negatively affecting game performance. However, the author speculates that removing Denuvo may not significantly improve the game’s performance because the data-loading process was intentionally programmed this way. So, it’s unlikely that we’ll see a noticeable boost in speed once Denuvo is taken out.

In the world of gaming, it’s not uncommon for developers to take out Denuvo from games after their initial release. Games like Lies of P by Neowiz studio and Doom Eternal by Bethesda have followed this pattern. Since maintaining this security comes at a cost, it makes sense that when the initial excitement dies down, creators might choose to do away with it.

Immortals of Aveum launched on August 22, 2023. The game is available on PC, PS5, and XSX/S.
