Elder Scrolls 6 could release in 2028 at earliest, with 2029 a “high probability,” insider says

According to Kiwitalkz, who has spoken with over 150 video game developers, the earliest we might see The Elder Scrolls 6 is 2028. However, he believes 2029 is more likely, meaning fans could be waiting over ten years since the game was first revealed at E3 in 2018.

Kiwitalkz predicts The Elder Scrolls 6 could arrive around 2028 or 2029, but explains that Bethesda isn’t offering even a tentative release date because announcing one too early would likely create more problems. Todd Howard, the game’s director, confirmed in 2023 that the game was revealed before they were ready, and he wished the announcement had been more low-key instead of a full trailer.

So, Kiwitalkz was chatting with some folks at Bethesda, and it turns out he was spot-on about the delay with GTA 6! He’d been saying there were mixed signals coming from Rockstar, and it looks like he was right. As for The Elder Scrolls 6… Bethesda isn’t saying much, but honestly, if we have to wait until 2028 or 2029, that’s going to be brutal for fans like me. I’m dying to play it, but that’s a seriously long wait!

The most recent major Elder Scrolls game, Skyrim, came out in November 2011 and has been re-released multiple times, including an Anniversary Edition in 2021. This year, Bethesda also released a fantastic remaster of Elder Scrolls Oblivion, which impressed the original creators so much they feel ‘remaster’ doesn’t fully capture how good it is.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is “progressing really well,” says Todd Howard

Bethesda leaders recently talked with Game Informer about the history of the Fallout series. They also gave a quick update on The Elder Scrolls 6, with Todd Howard saying that development is going smoothly.

According to Todd Howard, most of Bethesda’s team is currently focused on developing The Elder Scrolls 6, though he admits progress is taking time. He emphasizes they want to ensure the game is done right. Angela Browder, Studio Director, notes that the game has enormous potential due to the advancements in gaming technology since the release of Skyrim in 2011.

Bethesda hasn’t given fans any idea of when the new Elder Scrolls game might come out, even a rough estimate. However, Jez Corden from Windows Central reported earlier this year that the game was in a playable state. He also said full production only began in late 2023, five years after it was first announced. Corden also mentioned that Bethesda showed Microsoft a trailer for the game, but doesn’t plan to release it to the public yet.

Although official information is limited, people who used to work at Bethesda have shared their predictions about the game. Bruce Nesmith, a former designer on The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, thinks it won’t go back to complicated character stats like some older games. He believes, inspired by the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, the new game will emphasize giving players impactful choices that truly affect the story, characters, and world around them.
