Elden Ring: Nightreign Isn't A Live-Service Game And Won't Be Full-Priced

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent traversing fantastical realms and vanquishing formidable foes, I find myself intrigued by Elden Ring: Nightreign. The fact that it’s a co-op action-RPG doesn’t sway From Software from offering a complete package on the day of purchase, eschewing live-service mechanics – a refreshing approach in today’s industry.

Despite being multiplayer-focused, From Software has emphasized that Elden Ring: Nightreign is not intended as a live-service game. Instead, they aim for it to be a fully featured action-RPG that offers a complete experience from the get-go, much like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which will have a similar pricing structure.

As a dedicated PC gamer, I recently chatted with Junya Ishizaki, the director of Elden Ring: Nightreign. We talked about the possibility of incorporating live-service mechanics into this multiplayer survival game, but it seems that won’t be happening. Instead, Ishizaki explained that they aimed to create a game that felt like a full experience from the moment you buy it. So, there’s nothing extra to unlock or additional content hidden behind subscriptions – everything is included in your initial purchase. In their perspective, Nightreign isn’t categorized as a live-service game.

Regarding the purchase of Elden Ring: Nightreign, PC Gamer mentioned that Bandai Namco stated this additional experience will approximately match the price of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. At its release, the Shadow of the Erdtree was priced at $40 instead of the usual $60-$70 for complete games currently available in the market.

At The Game Awards last night, Elden Ring: Nightreign was officially unveiled and will be set within the dynamic location known as Limveld. Players will initially choose from among eight distinct characters before venturing forth on a challenging journey either solo or in a party of three. Their objective is to endure the trials of a continuous three-day-and-night cycle, ultimately aiming to defeat the Nightlord.

As a fervent admirer, I can tell you that Elden Ring: Nightreign, as described by Bandai Namco, appears to be an action-RPG condensed into a thrilling experience. This game seems to embrace roguelike elements, offering distinctive runs and artifacts that persist throughout each endeavor in Limveld. The anticipated release date for this captivating title is set for 2025.
