The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring won’t be available as originally planned. FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have announced that the ‘Tarnished Edition’ for the new console will now release in 2026.
The developer stated that work is still moving forward with full effort. However, they needed to postpone the release briefly to fine-tune performance.
Reports surfaced earlier this year from people testing Elden Ring on the Switch 2, and they indicated the game wasn’t running smoothly, especially regarding its frame rate. Bandai Namco hasn’t allowed anyone to publicly show gameplay footage, so we haven’t seen how it actually looks yet.
The developer said they’re sorry to players who were excited about the game and thanked them for their understanding and support during the delay.
The Tarnished Edition bundles together the Elden Ring game and its expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. Famous author George R.R. Martin helped create the game’s rich history and story.
Man, Elden Ring was huge! It was the second best-selling game in the US back in 2022, and as of now, they’ve sold almost 30 million copies across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. We’re still waiting for news on a proper sequel, but they did release a cool multiplayer standalone expansion called Elden Ring Nightreign just a few months ago. Sadly, there’s no word yet on whether it’ll come to the new Switch 2, which is a bummer.
If Elden Ring comes out in 2026 as planned, it will be one of the first games available on the new Switch 2, alongside FromSoftware’s other new action-RPG, The Duskbloods. The Duskbloods is being developed by FromSoftware and led by director Hidetaka Miyazaki, and it will be exclusive to the Switch 2.
