I initially intended to take just a year off, but six years quickly passed. I found myself able to spend all day on the couch, but I didn’t want my final projects to be low-quality. I had hoped to film ‘Dolemite,’ appear on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ make ‘Coming 2 America,’ and then return to stand-up to gauge how I was feeling. At the very least, I wanted people to remember me as someone who was still funny.
He previously won a Razzie Award, but this time received their Redemption Award, celebrating his successful return to acting. Additionally, his role in Dolemite Is My Name earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical.
