EA Sports has revealed it’s hitting pause on releasing a new F1 game in 2026. They’re using this time to completely revamp the series, with plans to launch a significantly improved and more detailed F1 game in 2027.
Okay, so there won’t be a totally new F1 game in 2026, which is a bit of a bummer. But the good news is EA Sports and Codemasters are releasing a big expansion for F1 25! It’s going to be a paid one, but it sounds like it’ll add all the new cars, teams, and drivers for the 2026 season, which is awesome.
EA has decided not to release a new F1 game in 2026 as part of a broader plan to revamp the series. The company aims for the 2027 game to be a significant improvement, offering a noticeably different and more customizable gameplay experience.
Lee Mather, head of Codemasters, confirmed the studio is dedicated to continuing the F1 game series, and this is just the first step in a long-term strategy for its future development.
Although it’s too soon to know all the details, Electronic Arts and Codemasters have announced that the 2027 Formula 1 game will include all eleven F1 teams and offer a significantly updated gameplay experience.
Electronic Arts (EA) bought Codemasters for $1.2 billion after Take-Two made a $994 million offer. EA is also known for the Need for Speed racing games, with the latest installment, Need for Speed Unbound, released in 2022. Importantly, Criterion, a key studio behind the Need for Speed series, has now become part of the team working on the Battlefield games.
Electronic Arts (EA) is being bought by a group of investors, with Saudi Arabia taking the lead, in a deal worth $55 billion. This is the biggest leveraged buyout ever recorded.
