Today, Electronic Arts (EA) has rolled out the re-releases of the classic games, The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. These anticipated re-launches were hinted at over the past week. Originally launched in February 2000, almost a quarter of a century ago, this digital release by EA will be the first time the original Sims game is accessible online. Both The Sims and The Sims 2 can now be downloaded on PC platforms such as Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the EA App.
EA’s re-release of The Sims 1 and 2 marks the first time the original game is available digitally
On the 14th of January, The Sims X/Twitter account shared a video serving as a guide for celebrating The Sims’ 25th anniversary. While many dates featured The Sims 4’s emblem, fans were intrigued by the period from January 27th to the 31st labeled “Nostalgia Now.” At that time, there was much speculation about a potential rerelease, but today’s announcement has put that theory to rest.
The two remastered versions are offered together in a “25th Birthday Bundle” at a discount of $10, or they can be purchased separately. The Sims is priced at $19.99 and The Sims 2 at $29.99. Additionally, both games come packed with almost all previously released expansion packs, except for the IKEA DLC that was only available for The Sims 2, which might be a letdown if it was your favorite.
On their website, EA provided answers to crucial questions such as the essential system specifications and techniques for enhancing pixels in The Sims 1 for larger screens. Additionally, this page detailed the process of importing old saves to facilitate compatibility with the latest versions of each game, ensuring long-time enthusiasts don’t have to begin anew with this re-launch. Furthermore, it was announced that the revamped editions of The Sims 1 and 2 will be compatible with mods. However, it is the responsibility of the mod creators themselves to verify their functionality.
This announcement coincides with an outrageous video showcasing all the bizarre occurrences possible in The Sims. Characters like the Grim Reaper are frequently seen lurking, residents get abducted by aliens from their gardens, and a peculiar clown performs a dance while crying. With more to come as The Sims marks its 25th anniversary, this updated version alone makes it worth revisiting.
