As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the vast expanse of science fiction, I can hardly contain my excitement for the renewal of “Dune: Prophecy” for Season 2! With a rich history of epic storytelling and an ensemble cast that would make even the most seasoned actor green with envy, this series promises to be a masterpiece.
As it was written: “Dune: Prophecy” has been renewed for Season 2 at HBO.
During a virtual press conference held on Thursday afternoon, the announcement was made a few days prior to the airing of Season 1’s finale, which is scheduled for Sunday, December 22nd.
The “Dune” prequel storyline, occurring over 10,000 years prior to the events in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” films, delves into the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit, a clandestine group possessing extraordinary psychic abilities who subtly manipulate Arrakis’ political landscape from behind closed doors.
The show takes its cue from the book “Sisterhood of Dune” written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It chronicles the adventures of Valya Harkonnen, portrayed by Emily Watson, who heads the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, and Tula Harkonnen, played by Olivia Williams, as they join forces to tackle dangers that endanger humanity.
In the “Dune” series, both characters hail from a wicked lineage that predates the House Harkonnen, which ultimately deceives Paul Atreides and his father. Mark Strong portrays Emperor Javicco Corrino, while Sarah-Sofie Boussnina takes on the role of his daughter, Princess Ynez. The ensemble additionally includes Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning and Yerin Ha.
Alison Schapker takes on both showrunner duties and executive producer role, while Diane Ademu-John collaborates in creating the series and also acts as an executive producer. Anna Foerster serves as executive producer and directs several episodes, including the premiere. Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, John Cameron, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns, Jon Spaihts, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert serve as executive producers. Additionally, Kevin J. Anderson works as co-producer. The production of this series is a joint effort between HBO and Legendary Television.
