Among the nominees for the Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) awards, you’ll find titles such as “A Complete Unknown”, “Conclave”, “Dune: Part Two”, “The Substance” and “Wicked”. In simpler terms, these are films that have been recognized by AMPS for their exceptional sound design.
For over a decade now, these awards have been celebrating exceptional talent in the audio field from various sectors of the industry. This includes positions like production sound mixers, dialogue/ADR editors at the supervising level, sound editors or designers, and re-recording mixers. The honorees are chosen across five distinct categories: Feature Films, Television Dramas, Documentaries, Production and Post-Production Audio Products.
Production sound mixers can choose to put forward their top assistant sound technician for potential recognition and awards.
Voting for the Feature Film award commences on January 11th and concludes on January 21st. The victor will be revealed on January 23rd.
The AMPS honors are a crucial aspect of the official awards season schedule, and historically, films that win at AMPS have often gone on to be recognized by both BAFTA and the Oscars. Last year’s AMPS Feature Film Sound winner, “The Zone of Interest,” followed suit by taking home three BAFTA trophies and two Academy Awards. In fact, over the last 11 years, films that have won the AMPS Feature Film Sound award have been honored with a BAFTA 10 times and an Oscar seven times.
The AMPS awards event consistently receives backing from influential figures within the industry, including Dolby Laboratories, Pinewood Group, Sennheiser, Raycom, and Bubblebee Industries.
In the upcoming weeks, we’ll disclose the schedule for the remaining categories of the AMPS awards. AMPS, based in the UK, is a professional association established in 1989. It comprises almost 600 members at present.
