‘Duck Dynasty’ Revival Lands at A&E With 20 Episode, Two-Season Order

The popular reality show ‘Duck Dynasty’ is returning to A&E after an eight-year absence. The new series, titled ‘Duck Dynasty: The Revival‘, has been commissioned for two seasons consisting of 20 episodes and will air this summer on A&E.

Titled “The Robertson Family’s New Beginning”, this series follows Korie and Willie Robertson, along with their grown-up children and grandkids, who reside on their ancestral property in Louisiana. According to the summary, the storyline revolves around the fact that the family’s influence extends beyond just ducks. The narrative will highlight Willie and Korie’s unique blend of humor and family entertainment while they work towards defining the future of Duck Commander, witness their kids dealing with marriage, parenthood, and managing their own businesses, and passing on the family’s rich legacy.

In the latest news about “Duck Dynasty”, the new season will be produced by two different companies: Wheelhouse’s Spoke Studios, who are replacing Gurney Prods., the original producers of the series, and Tread Lively Productions, owned by Korie and Willie Robertson.

Elaine Frontain Bryant, executive VP/head of programming for A&E and Lifetime, stated that the Robertson family gained acceptance in households nationwide through their distinctive blend of down-to-earth practicality, Southern hospitality, and humorous relatability. She added that ‘Duck Dynasty’ significantly contributed to A&E’s success for quite some time, and they eagerly anticipate reconnecting with the Robertsons during the show’s revival.

During autumn 2013, “Duck Dynasty” peaked with an impressive 14.6 million viewers in Live+7 ratings. This show concluded the 2012-2013 television season within the top 25 most-watched programs of the year. In fact, it attracted more viewers than all but the top three scripted comedies on TV. To put it simply, it was incredibly popular and is still the highest-rated unscripted series in cable history. Furthermore, it was a merchandising powerhouse, generating hundreds of millions of dollars from its branded products.

However, controversy erupted when Phil Robertson, founder of Duck Commander and formerly a prominent figure in the show, made derogatory remarks about homosexuality and racial issues during an interview with GQ magazine in January 2014. These comments led to a temporary suspension by A&E, although filming for the show wasn’t ongoing at that time. This decision sparked backlash from conservative media outlets and politicians such as Sarah Palin and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who advocated for a boycott of the network. In response, A&E swiftly reinstated Robertson, which further enraged people due to his offensive remarks. At that time, A&E announced they would air public service announcements promoting tolerance.

Following that incident, the popularity of “Duck Dynasty” started to wane. Throughout 2014, the show shed more than half its viewership. By the summer of 2014, the reality series had dropped to an average of 6.3 million viewers.

As a dedicated movie reviewer, I’ve followed the captivating journey of “Duck Dynasty” for a whopping 11 seasons until its heartwarming conclusion in 2017. The decision to bring this beloved show to an end was made jointly by the Robertson family and A&E, marking a bittersweet farewell for fans like me.

Throughout its run, “Duck Dynasty” spawned numerous spin-offs, with “Jep & Jessica: Growing the Dynasty” and “Going Si-ral” being notable examples, both airing on A&E. It’s been an incredible ride, and while I’m sad to see it end, I can’t wait to see what the Robertsons have in store for us next!

Despite concluding “Duck Dynasty”, the Robertsons have remained engaged in media endeavors. These ventures encompassed “Duck Family Treasure” for Fox Nation, as well as the 2023 film “The Blind,” which Tread Lively produced, focusing on the bond between Phil and Kay Robertson.

As reported, Phil Robertson won’t participate in “The Revival,” but Kay “Miss Kay” Robertson and Silas “Uncle Si” Robertson will join Willie and Korie Robertson for the show. Additionally, Willie and Korie’s children John Luke, Sadie, Will, Bella, and Rebecca, along with their families, are also expected to return to the series.

In simpler terms, Willie and Korie Robertson expressed that returning to A&E is like coming back home. They’re grateful for everyone who has been part of their journey as their family has expanded. They can hardly wait to start filming again, capturing both the new adventures and maybe even some mishaps.

Brent Montgomery, Jeb Conroy, Courtney White, Will Nothacker, and Gardner Reed function as the executive producers for Spoke Studios. On the other hand, Korie Robertson, Willie Robertson, John Luke Robertson, and ZachDasher are the executive producers for Tread Lively. Lastly, Elaine Frontain Bryant, Sean Gottlieb, and Jonathan Partridge will serve as executive producers for A&E.

As a big admirer of the original ‘Duck Dynasty’, I believed it was the greatest reality TV show ever made, so I eagerly seized the opportunity to collaborate with Willie and Korie,” expressed Brent Montgomery, CEO and Executive Producer at Wheelhouse. “The Robertsons embody a philosophy of ‘faith, family, and joy’, and this will be the core essence that we share with our audience.

I, an ardent fan, am thrilled to share that A+E Networks holds the global distribution rights for the “Duck Dynasty” TV series, which encompasses “The Revival.” The company has announced its intention to collaborate with a significant streaming platform to continue airing “The Revival” episodes post-season finale in what is known as the second window.

The Robertson Family and Tread Lively are repped by Gersh, as well as Skrzyniarz & Mallean.
