Tori Animation has strongly hinted at a highly anticipated anime remake, seemingly confirming months of fan speculation. For a while, people have been predicting a complete remake of Dragon Ball Super to be revealed at January 2026’s Genkidamatsuri event, but this latest news makes it seem much more likely to happen.
A supposed animation cell from a revamped version of Dragon Ball Super, showing Goku’s first Super Saiyan God transformation, appeared online recently, sparking rumors of a complete series remake. While fans were initially doubtful, Toei Animation seemingly confirmed the leak when they issued a copyright strike that led to the image being taken down from social media.
Dragon Ball Super’s Remake Leak Started With an Image of Goku Turning Super Saiyan God
A leaked image from Dragon Ball Super first appeared on X (formerly Twitter) posted by user walid walid on December 16th. The image was an animation cell showing Goku with Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Videl holding hands and channeling energy. While fans recognized the scene from the God of Destruction Beerus Saga, they noticed the image looked noticeably different than what’s been shown in the anime so far.
This scene has appeared in both the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie and the Dragon Ball Super anime, but this particular animation cell was noticeably different from all previous versions. The biggest difference was the art style, which didn’t quite match what fans were used to seeing. It seems this comes from a completely new take on the scene, unlike anything seen before.
I have to admit, even though the leaked image was intriguing, most Dragon Ball fans weren’t buying it. The idea of a second part to Dragon Ball Super already seemed far-fetched, and revisiting older storylines felt even less likely. But then Toei Animation got involved with some legal issues, and things became a lot more confusing.
Toei Accidently Confirms Dragon Ball Super Remake Rumor By Way of Image Copyright Takedown
On December 23th, Toei Animation took down a leaked image from the upcoming Dragon Ball Super remake due to copyright concerns. This action confirms the image is genuine and officially belongs to Toei Animation. While this proves the leak’s authenticity, there’s more to the full story.
Although the image appears genuine and confirms a remake of this scene, Toei Animation hasn’t officially stated that it’s from a complete Dragon Ball Super anime remake. There’s also no confirmation this leak is from a new anime project. It’s possible, though improbable, that this was an unused animation frame from the original series that Toei didn’t want publicly released without authorization.
Even if this image is recent, the scene might be a flashback being recreated for a new anime, perhaps showing Goku remembering when he became a Super Saiyan God. This wouldn’t be unusual for the series – Dragon Ball DAIMA frequently used flashbacks from DBZ. It’s possible this scene could connect a potential Dragon Ball DAIMA sequel to Dragon Ball Super.

Several sources, including people who leak information and content creators, have confirmed this rumor, and the person who first shared the image maintains it’s from a remake of Dragon Ball Super. If true, this is a really interesting move by Toei and Capsule Corp Tokyo. The remake might start by retelling the earlier parts of Dragon Ball Super, potentially leading to adaptations of the more recent manga arcs, like the Moro and Granolah sagas, which fans are eager to see.

Now that this image seems legitimate, a lot of exciting possibilities are opening up, things that previously felt impossible. While many fans would prefer to see Black Frieza animated instead of another remake of the Beerus Saga, the original animation quality of those early Dragon Ball Super arcs wasn’t great. Any new Dragon Ball anime is welcome, even if it retells a familiar story – one we’ve seen three times already.
