As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for international cinema and a soft spot for psychological dramas, I must say that the upcoming sixth season of “Sessão de Terapia” (In Treatment) on Globoplay is an exciting development in the world of TV. Having watched numerous adaptations of this globally successful format, I can attest to its universal resonance and ability to delve deep into human emotions.
Dori Media Group’s popular show “In Treatment” is set to come back for its sixth season on the top streaming service in Brazil, Globoplay.
Starting production towards the end of 2025, Brazil will surpass all other countries in terms of the number of seasons for “In Treatment,” a popular TV show produced locally by Moonshot. Globally recognized as one of the most successful television format exports, “Sessão de Terapia” (Portuguese for “Therapy Session”) is this series’ original title.
Initially named “BeTipul,” this show has been remade in over 20 countries, such as on HBO Max in the U.S., TV5 in Canada, and Nippon TV in Japan. The original concept was created by Hagai Levi, a highly acclaimed producer from Sheleg Productions, who is also known for his work on “Scenes from a Marriage” and “The Affair.” Adaptations of the show have received recognition in their respective countries, with the U.S. version earning Dianne West a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2008.
Nadav Palti, CEO and president of Dori Media Group, expressed that this format is still striking a chord worldwide, and he’s thrilled to see more individuals planning to debut and create additional seasons in the upcoming year,” (paraphrased from the original statement).
The Brazilian version is directed by Selton Mello, who stars in Brazil’s entry to the upcoming Oscars, “I’m Still Here” by Walter Salles. He has also played the lead character, Dr. Caio Barone, since Season 4.
In this adaptation set in Brazil, the show “In Treatment” revolves around Dr. Barone, a psychotherapist who explores the emotional issues and personal backgrounds of his multifaceted patients. Meanwhile, Caio confronts his mental hurdles by seeking guidance from a mentor. The series maintains the original’s introspective, character-focused approach while incorporating Brazilian culture and experiences.
Starting from its third season, Moonshot has been creating unique characters and narratives, giving fresh life to the series with a new therapist introduced in the fourth season. This therapist was portrayed by Morena Baccarin (“Homeland,” “Deadpool”), making her debut in Portuguese acting, taking on a significant role as Caio’s supervisor. The subsequent season maintained this trend by handing over the supervisory position to Rodrigo Santoro (“300,” “Love Actually”).
As a movie buff, I can’t help but feel excited about the task at hand: crafting intricate, emotionally resonant characters within the nuanced world of therapy, all while staying true to a globally recognized franchise. This challenge aligns perfectly with our artistic vision, and I embrace it wholeheartedly.
As a proud supporter, I’m thrilled to share that Dori Media Group, the creative powerhouse responsible for popular series like “Losing Alice,” “Lalola,” “The New Black,” “Ciega a Citas,” and “Dumb,” has unveiled an exciting lineup of fresh, unscripted content at MIPCOM.
These include dating shows “Spy Date” and “Love at Third Sight”, trivia-based game show “Smart Face,” talent competition “Da Next,” street game “Intuition,” reality competition “Stand-Up Warrior” and the shiny floor game show, “The Best of All.”
The popular reality show “Power Couple” produced by the company has been tailored for broadcast in over 20 countries around the globe.
This year, Dori Media revealed the sale of fresh episodes from the Spanish version of “Lalola”, which premiered on ViX in February, together with licensing rights for markets beyond Latin America and the United States. Created by Dori Media International, “Lalola” is a contemporary reimagining of the 2008-2009 romantic comedy that was Emmy-nominated.
