Zesty, a new app from DoorDash, is starting with a test launch in San Francisco and New York City. This is DoorDash’s newest effort to expand beyond just delivering food, and aims to help people discover local businesses and connect with others.
How DoorDash’s Zesty app works
Zesty helps you discover restaurants you’ll love by connecting to your DoorDash account. It uses an AI chatbot that gives personalized recommendations. You can tell it what you’re craving in your own words, or choose from pre-written suggestions within the app.
DoorDash recently shared examples of search prompts on Instagram, like “A quiet dinner in Williamsburg perfect for introverts,” as well as ideas such as “Best brunch places for groups” and “Romantic restaurants with a vintage vibe.”

DoorDash suggests restaurants and dishes by gathering information from various online sources, including DoorDash itself, Google Maps, TikTok, and others. According to co-founder Andy Fang, a system called Zesty combines this data to create personalized recommendations.
Okay, so Zesty isn’t just about finding places with AI – it’s got a whole social side too! I can save my favorite restaurants, share recommendations with friends, and even see what places they love. Plus, there’s a feed where I can post photos of my food, leave comments, and follow other foodies to discover new spots. Basically, it’s like Instagram or Facebook, but completely focused on food and local hangouts – which is pretty cool!
A DoorDash representative told TechCrunch that the company is constantly exploring new ways to help people discover and enjoy local businesses.
