DoorDash driver accused of pepper-spraying customer’s food says she was aiming for a spider

A DoorDash driver was arrested after police say she sprayed a customer’s food with pepper spray. She claimed she was actually trying to spray a spider, not the food itself, and now faces charges of battery and product tampering.

Vanderburgh County police in Indiana used DoorDash records to identify Kourtney Stevenson, 29, after a couple reported feeling sick – experiencing burning sensations and vomiting – soon after eating an Arby’s meal they had delivered.

Deputies watched doorbell camera footage that showed the delivery driver setting the food down, taking a picture to confirm the delivery, and then spraying something on the ground.

Driver says the spray was meant for a spider

According to the Evansville Courier & Press, Stevenson told investigators she used pepper spray while making a delivery, but claimed she was aiming for a spider on the porch, not the food itself.

According to officers, the video didn’t show any spider, and it was too cold outside for spiders to be active that night.

Stevenson was arrested in Kentucky and charged with tampering with consumer products, causing harm, and battery resulting in moderate injuries. She is currently being brought back to Indiana to face these charges.

DoorDash told Evansville news outlets that they have no tolerance for behavior like this, calling it “appalling.”

This latest event echoes a similar situation from November, where a DoorDash driver in New York was arrested and faced felony charges after sharing a video showing a customer in a compromising position on their couch. The video had gone viral online.
