The third installment of the revamped Doom series, titled “Doom: The Dark Ages,” is being hailed as the “most daring DOOM game yet” by its creators at id Software. During a question-and-answer session after the Developer Direct presentation, Eurogamer (who was present) shared insights about the game’s multiplayer aspect, to which the game’s executive producer Marty Stratton confirmed that players will have the opportunity to engage in intense online combat with their friends.

As reported by Eurogamer, Stratton has confirmed that a multiplayer mode for Doom: The Dark Ages will not be available at launch. Instead, the game is being designed as a “solely campaign” experience. Stratton explained that this choice was made early on to allow the developers to focus entirely on creating an exceptional campaign. He added that The Dark Ages will be the team’s largest, most expansive, and most epic campaign to date, a decision they are very satisfied with.

Hugo Martin, director of Doom: The Dark Ages, agreed with Stratton’s statement, explaining that this choice enables the team to concentrate on enhancing the campaign and gameplay aspects, such as controlling a mech to battle larger, more formidable adversaries. He further added, “That’s why we included the dragon and the Atlan [mech],” stating that these elements were long-desired additions for the game, which they couldn’t implement in previous versions due to the presence of a multiplayer component, a feature they appreciated, but was ultimately intended to solely elevate the single-player campaign experience for players.
