Don Lemon Says the ‘Public Misses’ Matt Lauer and ‘Would Accept’ His Comeback After Sexual Misconduct Allegations: ‘Women Love Him … Ratings Would Be Great’

On the “Hollywood Raw Podcast,” I (Don Lemon) joined hosts Dax Holt and Adam Glyn, and expressed my personal viewpoint that people seem to be yearning for Matt Lauer, who was a co-anchor on NBC’s “Today” from 1997 to 2017. Unfortunately, he was let go in 2017 due to sexual assault allegations made by an NBC employee. More women later came forward with claims of sexual misconduct against him. Although Lauer refuted the sexual assault accusations, he acknowledged in a statement that there were elements of truth in these stories that made him feel embarrassed and ashamed.

As a dedicated film enthusiast, if someone inquired about Matt Lauer’s potential return to the news industry on a podcast, I’d say: “In my opinion, if given the chance to dive back into digital media, he could certainly chart his own path.

Lemon explained that she didn’t know Matt until after the situation unfolded as they reside in the same town and share mutual friends. Whenever she encounters Matt socially, like when my husband and I dine out with him and his fiancée, or run into him around town, people adore him. Women are particularly smitten! They often ask for a photo and express their affection, saying things like “Oh my goodness, I love you! I miss you on TV.” I believe the public cherishes him and yearns for his return, but it’s those within the industry who fear him.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been pondering that perhaps in this entire Trump era, where being “cancelled” seems less prevalent, there might be room for Lauer to make a comeback. However, it’s the insiders within the industry who appear more apprehensive about what transpired with Matt. To put it simply, I believe the public would welcome Matt back, and I think the viewership would soar. The ratings, in my opinion, would be phenomenal.

Lemon stated plainly that he’s unaware of the events surrounding the allegations against Lauer. He empathizes with women’s feelings, but considers their experiences as personal matters. However, when he is out in public with Matt, people adore him and clamor for his attention, always expressing a desire to see him back on TV.

Regarding Don Lemon, the ex-CNN anchor, he was let go from the network in 2023 following a report published by EbMaster detailing his alleged sexist conduct towards female colleagues over time. Lemon then made an effort to return on a digital stage with “The Don Lemon Show” on X, but Elon Musk swiftly ended the program. Currently, Lemon is taking legal action against Musk for fraud, breach of contract, and additional claims.
