After an elderly woman didn’t return from a walk, her child’s dog guided a police officer to where she had fallen.
It’s easy to see why dogs are considered humanity’s best companions – this heartwarming rescue story is quickly becoming popular online.
On Thursday, September 25th, at 10:30 PM, police in Destin, Florida received a report of a missing woman. An elderly man was concerned because his 86-year-old wife hadn’t come back from walking her son’s dog, Eeyore, in their neighborhood.
In body camera footage released in early October, he told police, with concern, that she usually takes only 10 to 15 minutes, but it had now been almost an hour.
Family dog hailed as ‘hero’ for helping police rescue grandma
Okaloosa County Deputy Devon Miller was assigned to find a missing woman and her dog. She quickly began searching the neighborhood in her patrol car, and soon spotted the dog. The dog approached her vehicle as if trying to communicate something.
“Hi baby!” Deputy Miller said. “Where’s your Mama?”
Eeyore, a donkey, surprisingly led rescuers right to the spot where a woman had fallen and been injured while walking her son’s dog, according to a Facebook post by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
On the officer’s bodycam footage, the woman sounds surprised that the donkey, Eeyore, had actually led Deputy Miller directly to where she was.
“The dog brought you?” she asked, incredulous. “He wouldn’t leave. He kept coming back to me.”
It was so cute! This little guy just ran right up to my car, and on a whim, I said, ‘Take me to your mom!’ and he immediately turned around and ran back where he came from. It was adorable, and we were both just saying ‘Good boy!’ to him the whole time.

The OSCO Facebook page praised both Deputy Miller and a child, nicknamed Eeyore, for helping his grandmother get to safety. They shared that the deputy’s body camera footage – shortened to show only the important parts of the search – clearly demonstrated how Eeyore’s caring nature and quick thinking led to his grandmother receiving the help she needed.
Authorities stated the woman was taken to a hospital for assessment, but her current condition remains unknown.
A heartwarming story is circulating online about a California woman and her dog, who went missing in July. Amazingly, the dog was found safe in Illinois – over 2,000 miles away – in early October.
